Subject: Mudcat down time? From: paddymac Date: 06 Nov 00 - 11:27 PM Has anyone else had unusual problems accessing Mudcat of late? I know the system gets over-loaded sometimes, but it seems I've been getting the "unable to locate server" error message with unusual frequency the past 2-3 weeks, seemingly irrespective of time of day. My ISP merged several months ago and service as been in decline ever since, leading me to suspicion that they may well have an inadequate number of lines and might be hiding it with "not-entirely-accurate" error messages. But, maybe the 'cat has had some unusual downtimes lately. I thought it only fair to inquire before I get angry at my service purveyor. |

Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat down time? From: ddw Date: 06 Nov 00 - 11:49 PM I was having trouble earlier this evening. Every time I'd get in and try to open a thread it would freeze up and I'd have to bring it up from scratch again. A couple of times I got threads up, but it would freeze when I tried to return to the forum home. It's been OK for the last couple of houres. david |
Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat down time? From: katlaughing Date: 07 Nov 00 - 12:33 AM It was down over the w/end. You can read about that on the help forum at http://help.mudcat.org and sometimes I get an error message, but it usually comes right back on another try or if I go to the alternate server at http://ragtime.mudcat.org. I did have the same problem with it freezing up, though, this evening. I waited a while and it was okay. kat |

Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat down time? From: Jon Freeman Date: 07 Nov 00 - 01:27 AM Paddymac, there was a long downtime this weekend but other than that, there have only been short down times that I am aware of. The ISP problem is a hard one to diagnose but in the first instance,I would suggest trying ragtime mentioned above (which was down last time I tried it). You could also try accessing other web sites, checking email etc. I have problems with my ISP (and my previous one but not quite as bad) that cause page unavailable/DNS error messages and I have found that to be a reasonable indication as to where the problem lies. I could be wrong but I would suspect that the bulk of your problem does lie with your ISP. Jon |

Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat down time? From: SINSULL Date: 07 Nov 00 - 08:28 AM I get an annoyingly "cute" message that there is a traffic jam on the internet highway. GAG! I too try again later. Usually with success. |
Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat down time? From: Tig Date: 07 Nov 00 - 12:12 PM I'm finding it very fustrating at the moment as I'm short of time to log on and then I get an error message. There seems to be a lot of it about - like the floods around here! |

Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat down time? From: Bill D Date: 07 Nov 00 - 12:49 PM when I get slow, or no, response on Mudcat, I have a list of other sites I try which seem to be on different router systems...meaning that I can soon make a reasonable guess where the problem lies. If I can access the Washington Post, and The BlackStump in Oz, and a Seattle Newspaper site, but not the 'Cat, I figger that tells me to read other things & wait......and if I REALLY want to look at world internet situation, I go to |
