Subject: Wrong addy for Dems voting in Calif?

Have any of you who are in California heard anything about the wrong voting booth addresses being given out to Democrats, in the predominately African-American area of Pasadena?

Some woman just called in from there and said there was a website which had the wrong addy and intimated that whoever put it up there knew it was wrong, ahead of time, and has never changed it.

She went on to say many people are very alarmed at the appearance of this, as it is only Dems who've been given the wrong addys, apparently.

I just heard about it from a friend, who wrote:

"Just heard a caller from California who said that a number of African Americans in Pasadena complained that they had received incorrect addresses for their polling places. Since they were stopping by the polling place on the way to work, they were extremely frustrated.... The caller, an Englishwoman, said that this tactic reminded her of the Balkans."

California is now among the "toss-up" states.

You can check there to see whether you're in a Bush-safe, Gore-safe, or toss-up state. They encourage you to pledge to vote for Nader if you're NOT in a toss-up state, for Gore if you are. There have been a lot more pledges for Nader than for Gore.

Thanks, Miriam, that must've been the same caller I heard on NPR, as those were pretty much her words.

There were some other sites like that, which urged people to trade votes. I had offered to do so with my neice, but chickedn out, I am sorry to say, and voted for Gore, even though it probably won't matter at all, here in Wyoming.

I suppose you heard that the Democrats are going to get three more hours to vote in St. Louis. Should give them (Democrats) and edge in Missouri. Anybody gonna scream about that? :>) DougR

Actually the real issue was that they were de-registered by a mistake at the registration office, and by the time the mistake was corrected and they were re-registered and allowed to vote, the polls were closed.

Yeah, some terrible thing to allow them to vote.

The EC is sending "election watchers" to Bosnia, Kosovo, some countries in Africa or South America that have not many experiences with democrating voting yet. We have some experience in doing that. Perhaps we might volunteer to send you some "election watchers" in 2004 ( big grin)?
