Hi everyone I have tried for the words to this before with no success. Its called "the Furey Man" and its about Ted Furey who was the Fureys father, the first line is, "The music man, from us is gone, piper play for me the Furey Man" Come on lads you've never let me down yet

The only reference I could find to "The Furey Man" was at the web site belonging to Pete St John where he has it listed under the title "Pete St John's Hit Songs of Ireland." But it isn't clear whether "Pete St John's Hit Songs of Ireland" is supposed to be the title of an album.

For some reason the link to the Pete St John songlist site doesn't work any more. Sorry - I tried it last week and it did then. There was a list of 80 songs written by Pete plus a picture of him 'hard at work', but I can't even remember now if there were pages showing the lyrics. Found the same address on Excite just now, and it doesn't work from there either. Maybe it's just down temporarily.

Susanne, I think the URL changed. I clicked on one that did not display, then found this one.

Is there any chance this is a confusion and the song in question is Pete St John's "The Ferryman" ??

The Furey Man", written by Pete St John

According to this link http://rec.music.celtic.narkive.com/p5xYNdBM/lost-song, some of the words appear to be:

Great piper play, play out a song,
oh oh, the road to Dunan.
The music man from us is gone
piper play for me the fury man.
The winter's cold, the snow side harsh

Regarding 999's question whether there is confusion between The Furey Man and The Ferry Man, they are each listed as distinct songs on Pete St. John's site, here: http://www.petestjohn.com/works/complete-song-list/

Good question, though.

We're still searching for the lyrics beyond the five lines posted at 1:20 PM. I have written to composer Pete St. John requesting the lyrics.

Thank you, McGrath. That may be helpful if I don't receive a reply from Pete St. John.

HI there, I wonder is this thread still open? I have been searching for footage of Finbar singing this song on Rte late late show in the 1980's for years. I found out the the archive was burned in a fire. I even met Finbar himself one night and he told me he never sings this song. Anyone have any idea of what year this was?

Red Hurley - The Furey Man

That's Pete St John's song and the lyrics are clear.
