I had almost forgotten but was reminded on another thread of a good find for the White Lion, where the Manchester do is going to be.

On Johnny Adams' Village Music Project at Salford Uni he lists the tunes played by "Good Billy Tilt" (William Tildsley) at the White Lion, Swinton.

HREF="http://www.salford.ac.uk/media/research/tildsley.htm">Click Here to check them out. They are known tunes in the main but it is nice to see that we are not the first to play music at the Lion!

Cheers

Very interesting, Dave- good to know of the tradition of music at the White Lion which we'll be adding to!

Do you have any idea what is meant by "the old dinner-ing days" in the accompanying letter?

Noreen

Sorry Noreen - I have tried to find what was meant by dinner-ing but drawn a blank. I thought it was in my 'Pubs of Swinton and Pendlebury' local history book when I first spotted the term but when I went to investigate it wasn't.

Unless someone out there knows I guess it will remain a mystery!

Or perhaps we can have a 'call my bluff' type competition to see who comes up with the most authentic sounding definition???

See you soon

D the G
