Hi Everybody!!!! Thanks for responding! I stumbled onto the Mudcat Cafe by accident and thought this would be an interesting place to chat with some people who know and love blues. To give you some back ground on me........My name is Robert M. Harris. I'm 37yrs old and reside in Annapolis Maryland. My father (Lewis M. Harris) knew and loved Uncle Robert well......so much that he named me after him. My grandmother (Mrs. Carrie Spencer) was Uncle Robert's half-sister. So I am a relative by blood.

I do not know of any web sites that may be keeping abreast of the appeal concerning the estate. However I can give you alittle info about it but I cannot go too much in depth. One of our key issues is that (Claude Cain Johnson's) birth certificate was (improperly filled out). According to Mississippi state law (and any other state for that matter) for a birth certificate to be a (legal) document it must contain the father's and mother's full name. You (cannot) use Abbreviations. And on Claude's birth certificate the father's name was written as (R. L. Johnson).......... However the Judge allowed it into evidence. Now this presented a problem.........how do we know that R. L. Johnson (is in fact) Robert L. Johnson the bluesman? The court was presented with evidence that showed that there were (other men) living in that same area going by the name of R. L. Johnson. So how could the court be certain (without a doubt) that this man my uncle are the same person? This is just one of the issue's that we're appealing on. 2nd........the statement of Claude's aunt that she accompanied claude's mother and my uncle to a field and watched them have sex behind some bushes. Claude's mother contradicted that statement by saying that when she and my uncle had sex (no one) was watching them. But the judge gave the aunt's testimony alot of weight. And 3rd.......Claude claimed he knew that my uncle was his father from the time he was a little boy.......however he went by the name of cain (his stepfathers name) all the way up to the time he was in his late fifties. He only recently started going by the name (Johnson) when the estate was opened. Now........I find this all very strange.......don't you? That is pretty much the context of our appeal.

To go along with this appeal we currently have a lawsuit against Stephen Levere and Sony Records. We feel that my grandmother was exploited by these two entities in that (she) was the one approached and a deal made between Levere and herself......a deal that she later had recinded (legally by a attorney) and to which Mr. Levere was notified and to which he (responded). However.....he (and Sony Records) continued to produced my uncles music and use and copyright his likness (without my grandmothers permission). Well folks....I'm about out of time. I have to go for now. Will be in touch again soon!!!

thanks.......Robert.

Thanks so much for finding us here at the Mudcat Little Robert. I have been addicted to your relatives Music for about a year and a half now. I can't stop playing "The Complete Recordings" and I may very well wear out the present copy of said CD that I have. I can sing Note for Note about 29 of the original takes on "The Complete Recordings" although I am more of a baritone in pitch and not the Tenor voice that Mr. Johnson blessed this world to hear. Keep coming back I'll definatly write more on this board with your presence nearby. Imagine that another Blood relative; first the Gravel truck driver now yourself. Don't get me wrong I'm not disputing your claim in the least, but rather reinforcing the fact that Robert Leroy Johnson did not like being in any one place too long. It is truly fascinating to be able to correspond with true kin of such a widely respected artist whom had such a big influence on American Music across the barriers of Ethnic backrounds. Hence the huge influence Mr. Johnson had on such artists as Eric Clapton and Keith Richards to name a few (whom both happen to be white) for Music is a colorless art form in my book. LOL TNT Peace mrmoejoerisen

Robert, being in the UK I don't know about your legal case (can DNA tests sort out any dubious relations?), but as a longtime fan of RB (I have the complete recordings, as I'm sure the other blues fans on the Mudcat have), I welcome you to our forum and look forward to hearing more from you.

Hello Robert!

Glad you found the 'Cat. Interesting and informative place. Gets rather exciting round here from time to time.

Hope all goes well in the courts.

Do you share you uncle's musical talents?

You haven't been to the crossroad, have you? ;D

If I had the know-how, I'd put the blue clicky thing in. It would help.

I've just put a clicky in the Robert L Johnson...2 thread pointing to this one. Now here's one pointing to Robert Johnson's family tree Sounds like that's the one we should use.

DougR, go to the FAQ thread (top of the list) then Joe's first post, then click on "basic mudcat HTML" or some such. You'll find what you need. If you want your clicky to point to another thread instead of another website address (URL) "copy & paste" its address line just the same. It's fiddly to start with, but once you've got the basics in your head you'll find ways to shortcut some of the hassle.

Hello everybody! It's me again! Little Robert! I'm worn and beaten but I'm still here. It's been 6 years since I've last spoke with you. As you probably know the Mississippi courts decided in Claudes favor. What sunk me was that the judge believed Claudes aunt when she said she saw my uncle and Claudes mother making love in the bushes. Without DNA evidence no less. Seeing two people have sex is not enough to prove paternity. But the judge thought so. But none the less....I still maintain that nobody in the family ever heard of Claude. And as of yet he has made no attempts to get to know the rest of his family. He just seem happy to take the money and fade back into the woodworks. Seems strange doesn't it. But the fight isn't over. Now there's the question of the pictures. All I can say at this time is that the pictures are in my grandmothers estate.....and not uncle Robert's. And the authorization for their use was recinded before my grandmother's passing. Which means they've been used and are currently being used without out our authorization. I believe the truth always comes out eventually. And in time we will have justice. I pray that an old lady who loved her brother so much that she would name her grandson after him....will finally find justice. Anyway.....thanks for hearing my voice. I will be back in contact with you again soon....Thanks Robert.

Hey Robert, it's good to "see" you again.

There is an annual event called the Folk Society of Greater Washington's "Getaway" in mid-fall, not too far from you. A LOT of Mudcatters will be there. Info and links to older threads about it:

I forgot to mention. I now live in Chicago Illinois. I've ben here for five years now. I couldn't remember my login information from when I was living in Annapolis. So I updated my information. However I couldn't login under little robert so I shortened it to Lil Robert instead. The reason I've been so quiet these past few years was on the advice my attorney. But now's the time to make myself heard. Thanks for listening. Robert
