Subject: RE: Paltalk - Mudcat Song circle happening n From: Midchuck Date: 10 Nov 00 - 10:41 PM It's working. I sang "Goodbye to Montana." Folks said it came through ok. Jacko was singing and it was breaking up some, but he says he has an old slow machine. His computer, I mean. Peter. |

Subject: RE: Paltalk - Mudcat Song circle happening n From: Jeri Date: 23 Jul 11 - 11:22 AM How did you know I just got a computer with a webcam? Got it in Firefox, but it says "closed", and I ain't ready for a camera just now. |

Subject: RE: Paltalk - Mudcat Song circle happening n From: JennieG Date: 23 Jul 11 - 06:48 PM Do I need to join, or will my mudcat ID get me in? |
Subject: RE: Paltalk - Mudcat Song circle happening n From: IvanB Date: 23 Jul 11 - 07:02 PM I just logged in. Had to have them send me my pword, figured they would tell me they couldn't find a membership, but lo and behold - there it was in my email box. JennieG, yes, you need to join Paltalk to use it. It's free, though they'll bombard you with offers to "upgrade" (for a fee) your membership, if it's at all like it was the last time I used it. Admittedly, that was years ago. |
Subject: RE: Paltalk - Mudcat Song circle happening n From: JennieG Date: 23 Jul 11 - 07:21 PM Thank you Ivan, I'll give it a go......I really need to spend more of my life on the computer.....*grin* Cheers JennieG |
Subject: RE: Paltalk - Mudcat Song circle happening n From: Joe Offer Date: 23 Jul 11 - 07:35 PM Hmmm. It sure would be nice to resurrect those three-continent song circles. When we had them, I was living in a duplex, and my office was right next to my neighbor's bedroom. Sometimes, I'd sing too loud (or too badly), and my neighbor would pound on the wall. And he was such a nice neighbor..... I moved my computer to the other side of the house so I wouldn't bother him, but it wasn't the same after that. Gee, I have a Zoom Handy H2 recorder now, and it's supposed to work as a computer microphone. I wonder if I could get it to work with PalTalk. -Joe- |
Subject: RE: Paltalk - Mudcat Song circle happening n From: GUEST,Jon Date: 23 Jul 11 - 08:48 PM Haven't used Paltalk in years (too many late nights, at the time, no Linux support, etc.) but I've just tried the web based Paltalk Express on Linux. Their Flash application would not let me log in (the password entry box wouldn't accept any characters after entering a user name) but I was able to able to resolve that by using a 64 bit beta plugin from Adobe here I've got playback sound but I don't know about the mic - I can't find any means of testing it. Other than that, I'm finding it impossibly slow (although sound is not breaking up), entering rooms hit and miss (and sometimes it will pop up telling me it has failed only to open the room) and I've once got stuck on a cycle of getting logged out, attempting to log in again and getting prompted again to log in before I've had a chance to type anything. I'm not impressed. |
Subject: RE: Paltalk - Mudcat Song circle happening n From: GUEST,Jon Date: 23 Jul 11 - 09:42 PM Have just tried a Zoom H4 on Vista. Seems fine for Paltalk although I can't see an obvious way of using an output other than its own headphone socket (which is better than my laptop speaker so I'm not bothered). I think it's different to the H2 though Joe. The H4 works as a sound card (and will even allow other mics with XLR connectors to be be plugged in) but I think the H2 works as a USB mic. --- Oh well, I might browse around there, see if something like the "Live and Unplugged" room comes on line. |
Subject: RE: Paltalk - Mudcat Song circle happening n From: Leadfingers Date: 23 Jul 11 - 10:01 PM I am a bear of but little brain , and have logged in on Max's link - Now What ? |
Subject: RE: Paltalk - Mudcat Song circle happening n From: katlaughing Date: 24 Jul 11 - 12:05 AM Phew! That was a toughie. I haven't done anything in paltalk since 2006, apparently and wasn't even sure of my nickname, let alone pw. I found Rog's info in an old email and finally sussed out what mine was by trail and error! The ROOM looks good, Max, except it was empty. Who's up for a set schedule of world-wide song sessions? With apologies to Guy Lombardo: It'll seem like old times, chanties, 'hrans & mandos Just like old times, staying up for hours Making music with you, doing things we used to do It'll seem like old times being here with you Being here with you Being here with you |
Subject: RE: Paltalk - Mudcat Song circle happening n From: momnopp Date: 24 Jul 11 - 12:23 AM I got it to work! Now, all we need is some more folk and a little singin' and we're back in business! It sure was fun to sit in my living room and sing with people 'round the country and 'round the world. I'd be up for it again... |
Subject: RE: Paltalk - Mudcat Song circle happening n From: katlaughing Date: 24 Jul 11 - 12:37 AM Sunday afternoons, rocky mtn. time seemed to work for awhile at least. That would be two hours behind Mudcat time. |
Subject: RE: Paltalk - Mudcat Song circle happening n From: nutty Date: 24 Jul 11 - 05:20 AM I'm torn. I loved Paltalk when we had it before and would love to make contact again but here in the UK it mainly happened after midnight and I'm not into staying up that late anymore. Mmm - need to think about this. It's a great experience --- can I resist temptation?? |
Subject: RE: Paltalk - Mudcat Song circle happening n From: Leadfingers Date: 24 Jul 11 - 12:14 PM I have tried to find the Mudcat room , but just go round in bloody circles - I just finish at the Download screen ( Or a different one) I think I will Uninstall Palltalk and give up |
Subject: RE: Paltalk - Mudcat Song circle happening n From: katlaughing Date: 24 Jul 11 - 12:21 PM nutty, what if we started at 11a Mudcat time? Wouldn't that be mid-afternoon your time? Of course, that would be fairly early on the west coast for Joe and other Californians, etc.:-) |
Subject: RE: Paltalk - Mudcat Song circle happening n From: maeve Date: 24 Jul 11 - 12:55 PM Will someone please help Leadfingers (and others) who are trying to access this? Thanks, Maeve |
Subject: RE: Paltalk - Mudcat Song circle happening n From: nutty Date: 24 Jul 11 - 12:56 PM Do you still need a password to get into the room?? |
Subject: RE: Paltalk - Mudcat Song circle happening n From: Leadfingers Date: 24 Jul 11 - 01:17 PM Hazel - IF you were a member it will remind you of your password , but for new mwembers , its bloody confusing trying to find your way round the site Actually registering is dead easy , but thats where it stops !! |
Subject: RE: Paltalk - Mudcat Song circle happening n From: Crowhugger Date: 24 Jul 11 - 01:25 PM Max's link seems to hang at 48% loaded. I'll try yet again later, or try to find the room directly. Can I use the mudcat room at paltalk with only audio, no video? My computer is pre-camera and I don't have an external one. |
Subject: RE: Paltalk - Mudcat Song circle happening n From: Crowhugger Date: 24 Jul 11 - 02:26 PM Another question: Why are there one or two members in each of several 'mudcat' groups, instead of everybody in one room? |
Subject: RE: Paltalk - Mudcat Song circle happening n From: katlaughing Date: 24 Jul 11 - 02:38 PM Yes, Crowhugger, you can opt out of the video feature. Don't know about the other stuff. Leadfingers, what happens when you try to register? Anyone up for going in now? |
Subject: RE: Paltalk - Mudcat Song circle happening n From: katlaughing Date: 24 Jul 11 - 02:40 PM Max, are you the only one who can open the room, as the owner? I went just now and it asked if I was the owner and that is was closed at the moment. |
Subject: RE: Paltalk - Mudcat Song circle happening n From: Crowhugger Date: 24 Jul 11 - 02:44 PM Thanks kat for that info! For now I need to take a break from the virtual world, having spent quite a bit of computer time already today; I'll check in later. |

Subject: RE: Paltalk - Mudcat Song circle happening n From: John MacKenzie Date: 24 Jul 11 - 04:05 PM I managed to join a room, which had Uncle Dave O as the only member. Could get no further. It asked me to confirm my e-mail addy, but I haven't received one at the address I gave, to enable me to confim it. |

Subject: RE: Paltalk - Mudcat Song circle happening n From: Max Date: 24 Jul 11 - 09:35 PM Paltalk failed my assessment. Junk. Testing Google+ now. 10 people at a time. So far so good... Making mudcat circles... MaxSpiegel@gmail.com |

Subject: RE: Paltalk - Mudcat Song circle happening n From: My guru always said Date: 25 Jul 11 - 03:51 AM Thanks for letting us know Max, was going to set up for Paltalk, but won't bother now! Not sure about Google+ |
Subject: RE: Paltalk - Mudcat Song circle happening n From: John MacKenzie Date: 25 Jul 11 - 07:27 AM Well I have erased Paltalk from my computer, and I ain't going to use Google+. I already have too many applications on my PC. So that's it then, I guess. |
Subject: RE: Paltalk - Mudcat Song circle happening n From: Max Date: 25 Jul 11 - 12:37 PM As always, our rules for inclusion of cool features is that they won't require you to download, install or purchase any software (outside of perhaps a browser plugin). Paltalk offered their embed-able free video chat so I tried it, but their incessant badgering to download the app was unbearable. The product they offer, from the host's side, that I would want is over $80 per month anyway. Junk! That being said, I reopened the room "mudcatcafe" if anyone wants to try it out. Above, or try this. I'm predicting (hoping) that Google+ will merge technologies with Google Friend Connect and solve a dozen of our shortcomings. No software needed. Still hunting for the ultimate virtual audio/video song sharing environment... Stay tuned. |
Subject: RE: Paltalk - Mudcat Song circle happening n From: katlaughing Date: 25 Jul 11 - 06:18 PM I was scrolling down, reading messages, when music started playing on my PC and I knew I hadn't started it, anywhere. Lo and behold, it was Max trying out the PalTalk room one more time. After we sorted out my mic, we had a nice chat about the different places available. Have to say, I am excited about google+. Thanks, Max! |
