I'd be glad to make a search for you (I'm the one and only Latin American here), but please be more specific (Mexican, tropical, Andean, Brazilian, Argentinian folk or urban -tango- ,modern, traditional, classically influenced, USA folk influenced .. heewww)

Andrés (from Buenos Aires)

Click HERE to go to a music index of folk music, esp. LLaneros music, lots of audio files, but I am not sure about lyrics, etc.

Andres, after watching "The Tango Lesson" with Sally Potter and Pablo Veron, I have decided Argentinian men are the sexiest alive!**BG** Mix that dancing with your voice and my heart is totally captured!

Ha ha ! Katalina ! Curiously, when I sing as soloist I usually choose old black American repertoire, or classical, but I will try some tango too. The reason I did never dedicate to our national urban music is that I have a tendency to emphasize melodic aspects of the songs, as the old (1930-40) singers did, but the current taste seems to be a theatrical interpretation that I don't like and that appears to be a requisite for tango singers. Who knows ? Perhaps I start a new revival wave in the tango ? Or gather an audience of 80+ agers ?

In a couple of weeks I will have a new CD with some songs (this time I'll be in good vocal condition and will use all my patience), and will include some tango too. Crowds can't wait to listen, but you don't need a reservation. LLOOLL

Un abrazo - Andrés

Oh, Andres! I want to order one!! Please, please!!?? we are in the middle of moving from one house to another and I am almost to the closet that has my brother's stuff in it, so you WILL still get a package from me, soon!**BG**

YES, do add some tango, please!! I'd much rather hear your style than any modern. I believe that is more of what the movie had, too, the older style, although I don't know that much about it, except that I LIKED it!

Tango,tango, tango!!!LOL!!

Hola Escamillo! I´m mostly interested in folk songs from Argentina (I know your lovely country and people!) (zambas, chacareras etc), Uruguay, Chile. I,m playing with a band in Sweden, we play and sing folk songs from different countries. Hablo español tambien. Saludos, Anna-Ruth

OK Anna-Ruth, give me a day and I'll search for the proper sites. How about coral music from Carlos Guastavino ? Beautiful, but needs at least a quartet of voices.

Un abrazo - Andrés

Greetings. I just popped in to say that apart from tango and other folk music traditions, Argentina is the land of Les Luthiers, and this is just enough (which is not, anyway) to make an effort to get to know the Argenitian culture (and to learn Spanish). Un abrazo desde España. Adolfo

Hola Adolfo! I know Les Luthiers, they are very good. But it´s not so easy to play their music. I´m looking for music and songs that we can play with our (acoustic) band. Anyway it would be nice to hear some new things from Les Luthiers, do you have any suggestions? (I have only some old songs on a cassett) Saludos de Suecia

No, definitely it must be very difficult to play Luthiers' music. AS far as I know some video tapes have recently come out but I still haven't seen them in shops. There are several web pages about them. Some of them may give hints about how to play some of their songs. I'm sure they'd be glad to hear someone in Sweden listens to them. Adolfo

Surprisingly, it has been no easy job to find sources of Argentinian folk (country, not urban). These two places:

http://www.elfolkloreargentino.com/musica.htm - History, instruments http://www.geocities.com/Nashville/Rodeo/3873/agradeci.html - 1,500 lyrics

could be a starting point. In fact, it is still easier for me to visit a local music editor, buy some music sheets (don't worry for the cost, it's very low and I'll be glad to pay for them for you) and send them to you by ordinary mail (as we used to do before Internet was invented). How many instruments do you have ? How many vocalists?. There are music for choirs, quartets, duets, soloists, for guitar, for piano, harp, and native percussion. While you answer this, and to start with, I'll get some traditional zambas for piano and voice. Please send a personal message to me, indicating your mail address.

Un abrazo - Andr‚s

(Personal taste: - and only personal: I would like classically made folk songs, for example Carlos Guastavino's works, which are very rich in melody and harmony, written for soloists or SATB choir and could be easily arranged for duets or quartets)

Hola Escamillo! Anna
