I was wondering if anyone has heard of this gospel boogie song. I'd love to get all of the lyrics to it. I first heard it on a green translucent RCA (I think) 45RPM record. It was sung in four or five part harmony and really moves. I'm sorry but I don't have the name of the group either. I have always wanted to work this song up but haven't been able to find a copy since I first caught an earful about twenty years ago. Some of the lyrics are as follows.

God will save his children, yes children.
He'll never line'em up, he'll never let'em go.
He'll never say eenie meenie minie moe.

Eenie meenie minie moe,
Eenie meenie minie moe,
Eenie meenie minie moe,
Eenie meenie eenie meenie minie moe, doot doot!

I hope someone out there can help. Thanks in advance.

Not a taker among ya so far eh? I don't normally do a lot of gospel stuff but this song's whole approach is so striking that I found it hard to resist. After twenty years the few bits of lyric that I remember still haunt me and so I refresh this request once more to ask for help locating the rest of the melody and lyric to this most unusual four to five part harmony vocal boogie woogie. It probably dates somewhere about the late fifties to early sixties. Thanks Mudsters

Jeez Reg that's a tough one. I remember, way back, a friend had this one on an RCA green 45RPM record but can't recall the group's name either and haven't seen my friend in years nor have I been able to locate him. I do recall it had an odd combination of up tempo boogie woogie acappella 5 part male vocalizing and somewhat silly lyrics for a gospel song. I too recall being impressed with the complex patterns the vocalists used to build and maintain the melody's pacing and the crazy lyrics, I love that. I'm sad to say though that my inability with the rather complex nature of trying to research anything on the web has made it impossible to locate this gem. Maybe someone else here at the Mudcat can offer a solution. sawry pal

Yeah but keeping it at the top of the order could help build interest and who knowswhat might happen. What's that old saying about location, location, location.

Wow, you'd think after twenty years I'd just forget the silly song and move on. It's kind of like a little sliver under the skin that can be ignored for a while but keeps annoying you till you deal with it.

Alright I know when I'm licked. I give up. I'll go away, quietly. Yeah, it was good while it lasted. I'll always remember it fondly. Alas. Dagnabit. Nutz. Rats. Shucks.

No! I'm not giving up! I can't! I won't! It's against my principles. If I quit now I'll never be able to post another Lyr Req again without fear of failure. I'm going to forge onward, post after post until there will be so many posts that eventually someone will have to notice and who knows perhaps even take pity on this poor thread. Yeah that's right I'll even take a pity post at this point.

No, wait a minute, cancel that last line. I don't need your pity. You don't have to patronize me.

On third thought, or is this tenth, eleventh or twelveth thought, maybe I do need your pity. Okay, hello out there. Is anybody home? Too busy talkin' about silly stuff on other threads. Alright Scotty, one to beam up.

At first, I thought of "Gospel Boogie" (recording is HERE; lyrics HERE), but it's a different song. A song with the title "Hallelujah Boogie" is registered at BMI. Search result is:

Is that a good hmmmmm or a bad hmmmmm? Okay, I know what you're thinkin', and for the record, I've been temporarily insane for a long time but being insane for great material is worth the effort in my book.

No, it was that I was trying to recall something-- I think I have a Gospel Boogie somewhere in my sound and lyric files, and I didn't see that Masato had posted a link to the one I have, but I thought, "Well, it's a different piece, but then he'd probably like it anyhow. So hm, where did I stash THAT one, hmmmm........."

And for the record, I'm as crazy as you are. *G*

I have about 3,000 gospel sound files but I don't recall ever having seen the one you are looking for. Maybe I saw it and thought it was the one I had, oh no! I'll keep an eye out for it, though.

Is Reggie Miles still around? If not, I hope somebody knows how to reach him to let him know that his question may have been answered.

I hope he still is around. He has a great sense of humor {or humour as the case may be}.

The Encyclopedia Of American Gospel Music, pages 2-3, says Lee Roy Abernathy (1913-1993), with The Happy Two, recorded HALLELUJAH BOOGIE as a 78rpm record, Quartet #0020 [no date given].

Earlier, in 1948, Abernathy had recorded EVERYBODY'S GONNA HAVE A WONDERFUL TIME UP THERE, later known as GOSPEL BOOGIE, which was a big hit, so HALLELUJAH BOOGIE was apparently an attempt to repeat the earlier record's success.

Yup, I'm still around. Thanks for the diligence in this undertaking. I found out most of this info already. The Harmoneers, yes they are the group but I didn't know that "Everybody's Gonna Have A Wonderful Time" or "Gospel Boogie" were songs that were recorded earlier...

Again, many thanks.

Now to find copie of all three to listen to. So far, even armed with the info about the group, I've not been able to find "Hallelujah Boogie". Now I'm also interested in these other two as well.

SAw ya later, Reg

Maybe you're still around here waiting, Reggie, but I've finally got your lyrics for you.

Listen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RnMYiT8G2Qw

HALLELUJAH BOOGIE
(Leroy Abernathy)
As sung by THE HARMONEERS QUARTET
RCA Victor 21-0321A, released May 1950

Jesus is comin' like God's own son
Gonna be rewarded for things we've done
If you get the blessin' and amazing grace
Then you'll have a mansion in the resting place
If you wanna look for the Master's face
Sing hallelujah

Listen to the story that I'm tellin' my friends
It's all about a fellow that was lost in sin
He never even heard about the Promised Land
He didn't even try to help his fellow man
Now mighty was the evil that was holdin' him down
A-keepin' him from Heaven and his shinin' crown
He was spendin' all his money in the world away
He didn't even think about the Judgement Day
You better try to separate the right from wrong
Now make the other fellow feel brave and strong
And si-i-ing this hallelujah song

Sing it on Monday, sing this song
Sing it on Tuesday, all day long
Go to parent meetin' Wednesday night
It'll Thursday, Fridays bright
Saturday, Sunday makes it right
Sing hallelujah

Dad is singin' it, mother is, too
Ev'rybody's singin' it, what about you?
Don't you wanna tell him how to join this band?
Don't you wanna travel on hand in hand?
Don't you wanna settle in Glory Land?
Sing hallelujah

Lord will know His children, children
He'll never line 'em up
He'll never let 'em go
He'll never say eenie meenie minie moe

Jesus is comin' like God's own son
Gonna be rewarded for things we've done
If you get the blessin' and amazing grace
Then you'll have a mansion in the resting place
If you wanna look for the Master's face
Sing hallelujah

Well there's gonna be a meeting up in Heaven some day
If you gonna make it you can't delay
Now if Jesus has a blessing that he offers to you
He offers you a blessing and delivers it too
You better get upon on your bended knees and pray
Hear me out, Almighty, there just one way
If you get the blessin' like the Master planned
You can shout hallelujah in the Promised Land
Preach it to the world about the blood-washed throne
Prove it to the world you'll never do wrong
And si-i-ing this hallelujah song

Sing it on Monday, sing this song
Sing it on Tuesday, all day long
Go to parent meetin' Wednesday night
It'll Thursday, Fridays bright
Saturday, Sunday makes it right
Sing hallelujah

Daddy is singin' it, mother is, too
Ev'rybody's singin' it, what about you?
Don't you wanna tell him how to join this band?
Don't you wanna travel on hand in hand?
Don't you wanna settle in Glory Land?
Sing hallelujah

God will know His children, children
He'll never line 'em up
He'll never let 'em go
He'll never say eenie meenie minie moe

Jesus is comin' like God's own son
Gonna be rewarded for things we've done
If you get the blessin' and amazing grace
Then you'll have a mansion in the resting place
If you wanna look for the Master's face
Sing hallelujah
Eenie meenie meenie meenie minie moe

Most of this classic old gospel can be found at wfmu's Sinner's Crossroads radio program, which has extensive and amazingly searchable mp3 archives thanks to their nutty host (pun).
