Subject: SONG CHALLENGE by a pop critic re: election fiasco From: Jim Dixon Date: 15 Nov 00 - 04:09 PM SONG CHALLENGE by a pop critic re: election fiasco. Jim Walsh is the pop music critic for the St. Paul Pioneer Press. He usually writes about the big commercial bands, but today, in a very unusual column called "Will Election Fiasco Start A Music Revolution?," he praises a 5-disc CD set called "The Best of Broadside 1962-1988: Anthems of the American Underground From the Pages of Broadside Magazine," and particularly Tom Paxton's song, "WHAT DID YOU LEARN IN SCHOOL TODAY?" He ties it to current events and issues an enthusiastic challenge for songwriters to commemorate the election in a rousing protest song. Go to it, Mudcatters! (I plan to e-mail him to tell him about Mudcat, in case he doesn't know, and I will give him a link to this thread in case he wants to see what develops.) |
