Subject: Garcia, Grisman, Rice From: BlueJay Date: 18 Nov 00 - 01:55 AM Probably old news to many of you. I searched the forum, but did not find. I recently found a CD by Jerry Garcia, David Grisman and Tony Rice, called "The Pizza Tapes". Apparantly recorded in 1993, and not intended for release, a copy was swiped from Jerry Garcia's kitchen counter by a pizza delivery boy, and widely bootlegged. Now I don't go looking for bootlegs, so I'd never heard this stuff before. It looks like it was released in April of this year. When I found it in the record store, I was like a victorious general returning home with the spoils of war. The CD includes favorites of mine, such as "Shady Grove", "Long Black Veil", "Rosalee McFall", "Little Sadie", and "Knockin' on Heavens Door". And a great instrumental of "Summertime". And others too numerous to mention. I was not disappointed. This is a must-hear for any fans of any of these three guys. A little cussing is among the banter between songs. Five Stars, IMO. They have it at amazon. com, with sound samples, so I imagine it's widely available. Again, sorry if this is old news, but I wanted to give a heads up to anyone who, like myself, may be a little behind the times. If you like any of these three guys, you will love this CD. Thanks, BlueJay |
