Seán Ó Sé is still alive and singing as good as ever, bail ó Dhia air. Semi-retired I suppose but still appears at various events and concerts.

Aaaah! sugar! I just realized this thread is 15 years old.

That brings me back! Seán Ó Sé has that testosterone-hardened high tenor typical of the early 20th century. Here he is singing The Valley of Knockanure about a bunch of lads killed by the Black and Tans.

it is nice to see him being remembered here. He is still singing, but He might be semi retired now. He performed in Tralee, a few years ago. There are a few of his c.d's, still around. Over the years, he experminted with different backing, such as drums, brass bands, and an electric organ, which made his recordings interesting.

I have tracked down the company where the current O Se recording may be: OUTLET RECORDING COMPANY LIMITED IN BELFAST, N.IRELAND. This company has a Web Site at :http://www.outlet-music.com I have contacted them by email but have had no response thus far. If ANYONE KNOWS WHERE OUTLET RECORDING CDs might be available in USA or Canada, I would appreciate it. If I never get anywhere, I do appreciate the helping hands along the way.There are many Irish shops in this area - Boston - but so far I have not had success. BYE - Slan - for now. I am most impressed with your site. "Unfortunately," I strayed into the CCEL and found Josephus The Jewish Antiquities," an online book from Calvin College. This is just one of my obsessions which have a happy nack of distracting me from what I'm trying to do! I'm not young, that is my excuse, and I'm stickin' to it! However,I found the original source for Sean O Se before I got lost; I had found Sean O Se on a Gael-Linn recording O'Riada Sa Gaiety with Ceoltoiri Cualainn.

If it has "Maidin imBerra" on it, this IS the one I'm looking for, but I can't tell if its on CD or how I go about buying it from you.My poor old sister searched music stores throughout Dublin but couldn't get her hands on it. Please advise.

My wife and I used to love to him him in his latter days in the late seventies, at the Hillgrove, in Dingle, I believe it was the Hillgrove, I think he had an interest in the place. He was always the opening act, before the Bothy Band, the Furries, Planxty, great craic...

look for Seá Ó Sé ; note how he spells his name. Recordings on Gael-Linn. sings on Ó Riada Sa Gaiety with Ceoltóirí Cualainn (spelling?), precursor to The Chieftains.

I am looking for a CD or any recordng by an Irish tenor named Sean O'Shea. Particularly, a song called "Maidean imBearra" done to the tune of The Londonderry Air. Or, maybe someone knows of a recording of this song by another artist. Anyway, as always, thanks so much in advance for the help.
