Subject: A Tribute to the Delta From: pedro Date: 17 Sep 97 - 04:14 PM We in the Bergen Blues & Roots Festival in Bergen, Norway are planning a special project during BBRF98 called A Tribute to the Delta. Earlier we've had Homesick James, Honeyboy Edwards, Willie Big Eyes Smith and Paul Oscher over. Could anybody tip us about vintage delta blues artists still in good shape and also about younger artists. Txs in advance |

Subject: RE: A Tribute to the Delta From: Jon W. Date: 17 Sep 97 - 05:39 PM Some second generation people (meaning they learned from some of the original blues generation) are John Hammond (whose father was a noted collector) and Rory Block. Both are terrific performers and oriented to acoustic guitars. Does anyone know if Mississippi Fred MacDowell is still alive and kicking? He'd be a good one. |

Subject: RE: A Tribute to the Delta From: pedro Date: 18 Sep 97 - 06:09 PM We've already had John Hammond quite a few times in Bergen Norway, but Rory Block seems like a very good idea to me. Mississippi Fred McDowell died of cancer in 1972. He was inducted into the Blues Foundation's Hall of Fame in 1991. |
