"We all sing Halleluia at the turning of the year" is the only bit of the chorus I can remember. Electric Folk? Anyone recognise the song or the band? Please email me at [e-mail] if you know this song. I have been looking for it for about ten years now!!

The song is "We Sing Halleljah" by Richard Thompson. It's on the 'I want to see the bright lights tonight' album.

Sorry if I come over as a total curmudgeon. The fact is that a while back I'd spend ages finding stuff for people and sending it by email, never to get a reply.

dog sh*t, Liz? my French is not so good, so what version of this would that be?
Some friends of mine wrote an upbeat version of this that ignorant folks like me like better than Richard Thompson's stone cold bummer verses, and All True Richard Thompson fans despise wholeheartedly. I could post it if people want to continue the war, and I do have the tune around here someplace if you want that.

Thanks Zebedee. We have the Bright lights album but no words and it is so much easier to find them on your clicky than sit and write them line by line! You're right much better to post than e-mail them I can benefit too.

Animaterra posted this in a "Healing Song Circle" thread, and said it was a shapenote song. I was going to correct her and say it was a Richard Thompson song - but of course she was right. It's not exactly the same, but did Thompson base his song on the shapenote song?

Is the version Noreen posted 12 years ago the version Full House* sing. I know the chorus is the same, but I've never been able to make out the rest.
