I'm trying to figure out the chords for those two songs...with Carrickfergus I tried to start with an A,then a D when it says "But the sea..." but these are only two chords and I do not think it's that simple. The other one instead is real mess.Do not know where to start! Please help me!

CARRICKFERGUS (Brian Kennedy)
  (Intro:) Em A D Bm Em A D

Em A D Bm Em A D
Em A D Bm Em A D
D Bm A Bm Em A
Em A D Bm Em A D

(Instrumental:) D Bm A Bm Em A

I've done this myself some time ago - maybe it is of any use for you. I could send you chords and text together as well. Of course the real chords depend on whether you have the same recording but I think these are the most common ones.

HTML line breaks and preformat commands added. --JoeClone, 24-Aug-02.

Subject: Chords Add: CARRICKFERGUS and COME OUT YE BLACK...
From: Brendy

Both the songs are in the DT, however,

CARRICKFERGUS (1st verse)
(G)I wish I (Am7)was (D)in Carrick(G)fergus(Em)
Only for (Am)nights (D)in Bally(G)gran
I would swim (Am7)over the (D/F#) deepest (G)ocean (Em)
Only for (Am) nights (D) in Bally(G)gran.
But the sea is (G)wide, and I (Em)cannot swim (D)over,
Not neither (G) have (Em)I the wings to (F)fly (D)
I wish I (Am7)could meet (D)with a handsome (G)boatman,(Em)
To ferry me (Am)over to my (D/F#)love and (G)die

Come out...
I was (Em)born on a Dublin street where the (D)Royal drums did beat
And the (Em)loving English feet they trampled over us,
And (G)each and every night when me (D)father'd come home tight
He'd (Em)invite the neighbours (Bm)outside with this (Em)chorus..

etc. etc.

Brendy, we have a different version; I'm not sure of its source:

(D)I wish I (C)was (Am)in Carrick(G)fergus(Em)
Only for (C)nights (D)in Bally(G)gran (D)
I would swim (C)over the (Am)deepest (G)ocean (Em)
Only for (C) nights (D) in Bally(G)gran.

But the sea is (G)wide, and I (D)cannot swim over,
Not neither (G) have (Em)I the wings to (Am)fly (D)

I wish I (C)could meet (Am)with a handsome (G)boatman,(Em)
To ferry me (Am)over to my (D/F#)love and (G)die

You're right on with Black & Tans! We just go to D instead of the Bm

Ed,. what key are you starting the song off in?. I honestly can't see the 'D' & 'C'(let alone play it) at the start. What tune have you got for it?

I would normally do it like this(A)I wish I (Bm)was (E)in Carrick(A)fergus(F#m) Only for (Bm7)nights (E/G#)in Bally(A)gran.
I would swim (Bm)over (E)the deepest (A)ocean (F#m) Only for (Bm) nights (E) in Bally(A)gran.
But the sea is (F#m)wide, and I (B7)cannot swim (E)over,.....

Brendy, I guess the key would be C. The D is used as a reference, generally lightly strummed once, to give the vocalist a spot. Additionally, playing the B on the way from C to Am as well as the F# between the G and Em adds a bit.

I have heard other versions and sense ours maybe a bit Americanized...We do like it though.

And yes, I've finally joined the forum.

Good man yourself, Ed.
I had to admit to being a bit confused, there for a bit.

Welcome to the 'Cat.
