How worthwhile is it posting alternative versions of lyrics? Bob Dylan signs a version of Moonshiner significantly different from the one here, for instance - should I bother putting it up?

I vote yes. I sing four different versions of The Two Sisters and Three different versions of Mattie Groves and I'm always on the lookout for more.

If you think it is different enough to merit posting, then post. If the powers that be don't, they either won't harvest it or they won't include it. HOWEVER it will still be available for anyone searching the forum for lyrics. Which is a good thing.

Yes, as MMario says; but do have a look round first to make sure that the version you have in mind hasn't already been posted.  Versions recorded by well-known performers are often eagerly contributed by well-meaning people who haven't stopped to look at (even) earlier messages in the same thread, some of which may already contain the lyrics, or a link to a previous posting of them.  On occasions when the extremely useful "Digitrad and Forum Search" on the main Forum page isn't working, it's often possible to get into it via this "back door" provided by Jon Freeman:  http://www.mudcat.org/@NewSSResults.cfm
