Subject: The gods were angry with me
From: GUEST,Lillian D. lild@peoplep

Does any one have the words to "The Gods were angry with me"? I know that goes way back and I can't remember for the life of me who sang it. Any ideas?

There is also a song that I heard a long time ago that I would love to have the lyrics for. I don't even know the name of it or who sang it. The part I remember goes like this:

"In the cold grey walls of a prison
Alone and dying there
A woman called out to her lover
But there was nobody to hear.
She cried out put your arms around me
Hold me close before I die
And let the warm sweet tears from you pretty blue eyes
Melt this pain in my cold cold heart."

I hope this doesn't stump everyone. It was sang to me by someone I knew in 1959 and I have no idea where he heard it. It is just something that sticks with me. Thanks
Lillian

Apparently we missed the second part of Lillian's request the first time around.

Here's one version, copied from http://home.earthlink.net/~gjflash/greywalls.html

COLD GREY WALLS

In the cold grey walls of a prison, wracked with pain and fever she laid.
A woman who calls for her loved one, as over and over she prayed.

CHO: "Put your arms around me.
Hold me close before we part.
Let the warm sweet tears from your blue eyes
Ease the pain in my cold, cold heart."

They searched through her few possessions for the name that she tried to call,
But there wasn't a name nor a picture, no letters, no, nothing at all. CHO.

She died in the night in that prison with no one to answer her screams,
But I hear my name and it haunts me as she screams in the night in my dreams. CHO.

PUT YOUR ARMS AROUND ME
(Cindy Walker)
« © '63 Four Star Music »

In the cold grey walls of a prison ragged with hate and fever he lay,
A man who call for a loved one, and over and over you say,
"Put your arms around me. Hold me close before we part.
Let the warm sweet tears from your blue eyes ease the pain in my cold, cold heart."

They searched through his few possessions for the name he was trying to call,
But there wasn't a name or a picture, no letter, no, nothing at all.
"Put your arms around me. Lay your cheek against my own,
While I fall asleep, my darling, to awake in the great unknown."

[Recorded by Hank Snow on "Songs of Tragedy," RCA Victor LSP2901, 1964.]

thank you for the words to "cold gray walls" & Hank Snow's song "Put your arms around me".I could remember all but the last part and mine was a woman.but the last part was like hanks' song.I also heard it in the early 50's.Much earlier than 1959.I was in my early teens & I remember it was when we lived in Emmett, idaho.I never forgot most of it.Funny how some things stick with one.Thank You again.Janice C.B.
Keep up the good work!
