Subject: Question, Thunder Road From: mkebenn Date: 08 Dec 00 - 07:12 AM The moonshine thread brought this to mind for obvious reasons. Does anyone else play this wonderfull song written, believe it or not, by Robert Mitchum? Mike Bennett |
Subject: RE: Question, Thunder Road From: Robby Date: 08 Dec 00 - 07:48 AM Hi Mike, You bet. I have this on an LP collection of "road" songs I got in the 60s. The collection includes songs like "Black Leather Jacket", "Cheater Slicks"; "Chicken"; "Little Deuce Coupe", etc. I finally copied it onto an audio cassette with other songs of the 50s and 60s so I could play it while driving in the car. |
Subject: RE: Question, Thunder Road From: Ferrara Date: 08 Dec 00 - 08:49 AM I can't remember the words, except for the chorus. Have been trying to retrieve it from the memory banks for I'd say about a decade... but it's never at the top of the list, just a passing fancy.... I found a friend who could write out the words to "Black Denim Trousers," which is not nearly as classy a song but is probably the reason why I started wishing I could remember Thunder Road. Glad you mentioned it. I think I saw the movie, but my life is one big Senior Moment these days. |
Subject: RE: Question, Thunder Road From: Jeri Date: 08 Dec 00 - 09:41 AM Lyrics to Ballad of Thunder Road in the DT. The copyright is Robert Mitchum & Don Raye. I used to love this song when I was a kid. |

Subject: RE: Question, Thunder Road From: Midchuck Date: 08 Dec 00 - 11:11 AM Compare Steve Earle's "Copperhead Road." It's like the next installment - adding on a generation. Peter. |
Subject: RE: Question, Thunder Road From: GUEST,dan evergreen Date: 08 Dec 00 - 11:18 AM Didn't realize Robert Mitchum wrote it; how interesting. It is a good song. How could there be a much better line than "When his engine roared they called that highway Thunder Road," or, "The Devil took the moonshine and the mountain boy that day. ..."? |
Subject: RE: Question, Thunder Road From: Ferrara Date: 08 Dec 00 - 11:23 AM Never dreamed it might be in the DT! Silly of me. thanks. |

Subject: RE: Question, Thunder Road From: GUEST,marshman Date: 08 Dec 00 - 12:49 PM A great song, I agree; but forget about the movie. I rented it a few months ago just to get the lyrics and see some exiting moonshine footage. Boy what a disapointment the movie was. Very slow and sappy and they never played the song as it was sung on the radio. Only a slow shortened alternative version. |
Subject: RE: Question, Thunder Road From: Kim C Date: 08 Dec 00 - 05:52 PM Copperhead Road is an AWESOME song. |
