Onomotopoeia is the best. I don't think I spelt it right though.

Discombobulated

Absquatulated

Bodacious

Squeejawed

Cattywompus

Fiddlesticks

Onomatopoeia is spelled properly in the first post of the thread. I looked it up.

Obsequious
Absconded
Miscegenation
Apoplexy
Gallipoli

Poppycock.

A friend of mine was telling me she'd been accused of sexual harrassment by her male boss, and I told her she should have answered:
Poppycock! I didn't want one INCH of your Poppycock!

Zounds, egad, and all those.

Scrumptious.
Free-for-all, which is also how we pronounced on of our college dorms, really called Freefer Hall (the initial F kept disappearing from the walls, too).

Splurge. Splurge. Splurge.

Spelunk. As in Calvin and Hobbes, that is, where it's the sport of throwing large rocks *spelunk!* into the pool...

1. solipsism - great fun to say, specially because hardly anyone knows what it means.

2. "subliminable" - thanks to George W. Bush for this one.

3. "humungous" - not a real word, but what the hell, it sounds good!

4. "bodacious" - as above (in my opinion).

5. "hellacious" - ditto.

6. perpendicular - describes the lovemaking technique of giraffes, who really have no choice about the matter.

7. democracy - a semi-mythical means of governing a people...works on the principle of giving them the impression that they have some control over the process, a dubious notion at best. It's still better than dictatorsip, however, unless the dictator is a person of very advanced moral responsibility and very humane character, with the genuine interests of all his/her people in mind...(which can hardly be guaranteed, of course). :-)

Say it when you're feeling down..."Democracy, Democracy, DEMOCRACY!!!"

See? You're feeling better already, aren't you?

8. "Santa Claus" - Even better. Sort of works the way democracy does...promises much, leaves a few crumbs on the floor. Say it when you feel in need of more goodies.

Just remembered, we had a Conservation politician in Canada for some time (until the Conservatives were turfed out of office), a cabinet minister, whose surname was...are you ready... HNATYSHIN

It sounds like a sneeze. You pronounce it "Na-TISH-in". Very funny.

Come to think of it "Strom Thurmond" sounds pretty funny too, not to mention "Spiro Agnew". Remember him?

When we were reading Milton, the conversation turned to various names given to Satan and other devils...and Dr. Mood said, "Oh, by the way, did you realize that the name of one devil was the same as we now use to refer to sorority girls?"

when he got blank stares, he said.."You mean you've never heard of the Foul Fiend Flibbertigibbet?"

then he got baleful stares

Brouhaha

Both words for lots of noise, which does tend to be the case whenever I'm around *L*

"What's all this brouhaha?"

"Brouhaha? Ha ha ha!"

"Ha ha"

"Hahahahaha"

- Firesign Theater - How Can You Be In Two Places At Once When You're Not Anywhere At All?, "The Adventures of Nick Danger, Third Eye"

And, rather like Morticia, some of my favorite words are "Here, this round's on me" *LOL*

Perspicacious

Flabious...That's one of my own. It's the texture of mushrooms and other edible fungi after they've been cooked.

to me one of the most beautiful words in the english language, as it rolls off your tongue is the word:

elbow.

btw; poppycock derives from dutch (pappekak) softshit (reference to babyshit)

there are a number of first nations place names in British Columbia, that I like the sound of such as.,

Keremeos, Similkameen, or Kitwangaa.

(I also like Massachusetts.)

one time on a golf trip I asked a buddy of mine of Italian origin how his team did in the world cup. but it came out like a Ned Flanderism.

How did Italy do? Italy did diddly.

thats what I heard the rest of the trip.

Sir Ranulph Wykeham-Twistleton-Fiennes
Ayatollah Homeini

Gusset - now that's a fine word. A friend won a bottle of champagne for managing to get the words "moist gusset" into the hallowed pages of the Daily Mail.
She worked on the paper's diary page (working for a five-star shit called Dumpster) and rose to the bait when someone bet her a bottle of pop that she couldn't get those words into one of "his" columns.
A tricky one - until she hit on the answer. At the end of some fatuous picture caption featuring Caroline Strangely-Brown or Ffiona Ffuchs-Tightly or whomsoever she added the words: "She has also been seen on the arm of legendary French playboy Moi St Gusset."
The champage was duly earned - but what put the icing on the cake was when the Mail news pages did some meretricious round-up of "It" girls and social trash a couple of months later, and some hack trawled up the original clipping and blindly lifted the offending paragraph without realising it was a piss-take. Who knows, Moi St Gusset may yet ride again!

Shamb, that word skitters was pronounced "Scutters " in Ireland where I grew up and my Grandad assured me it originated from The Crimean war and the hospital at Scutari where dysentry was rife and it became slang for diahoerria, dont know if this is truth or fancy but it is another one of those words, as is Oleaginous, and swamp,

I don't know Alex, I've never heard "thrawn" before. "Thran" is Ulster Scots as far as I know (cue debate over whether or not Ulster Scots is a language - I think it's a dialect myself, but there's plenty of scope for disagreement which can easily get political, so I'd just like to point out that it's a lovely word whatever it is!).

Bert's playback to me above on the "fuckoff" thing reminds me of one of Lenny Bruce's stories. After one of his many arrests for obscenity, the case goes to court.

The prosecutor says, "Your honor, he said cocksucker!"
Judge: "He said cocksucker?"
Prosecutor: "Yes, cocksucker....that's what he said, cocksucker."
Clerk: "I have it as 'cocksucker'...is that correct? Cocksucker?"
Judge: "That's what I understand. Cocksucker. That is right isn't it Mr. Prosecutor? Cocksucker?"
Prosecutor: "Yes, he said cocksucker. Right there in front of the police and everybody he said cocksucker."
Judge: "Well I just can't believe he said cocksucker to the police. I can't imagine using the word cocksucker."

After awhile it becomes obvious that they like saying the word. Most are to uptight to use it, but NOW its testimony so its OK and they love it!

One of Lenny's funnier bits, but again, based in truth. We get some thrill out of the words, but most of us won't use them in "polite" society.....most of us....well, most of YOU anyway...................
