Subject: Computer printer sloooow of a sudden
From: katlaughing

We just got hooked up with the cable company, so we are high speed and online 24/7. This happened about two weeks ago, so I don't know if it has anything to do with this or not.

Last night, while I was Mudcatting, I noticed things seemed a little slow, but they turned to molasses whenever I would go to print. It takes forever for it to process and begin printing and if I choose any printing options it is even slower.

I have not added any programs other than their external modem and I didn't notice this until last night.

Any ideas of what I should look for or can fix etc.?

Thanks, Mudcatechies! I appreciate it.

kat

Have you tried to print anything else since? It kind of sounds like a driver conflict. To check for this go to my computer and right click it, then go down to properties and click that. Next, you click on the device manager tab. If you see a a yellow mark next to them, that means that there is a conflict. What I suggest you do is call the tech support of your isp so they can help you with this.

Thanks, Amergin. I've been printing all day, in several different programs and it is a consistent slow.

I just went to the Device Mgr. like you said and see no yellow flags anywhere.

One drawback to having the cableco for an ISP, no local contact and I am not impressed with what they offered the other day when email was down.

I've had my computer get slow before when loaded with too much, but it isn't slow, just when printing. I am zipping through everything else just fine.

Thanks, darlin...

Ok, have you tried reinstalling your printer driver? Sometimes they can degrade when you install things...

Kat;

Dont know much about puters, but I somehow had selected to print graphics. When I did I could have left the room made coffee and drank a cup before I could print 5 sheets. That was on an epson. You might want to take Amergins suggestion and reinstall your printer driver.

kat, the most likely reason for slow printing is that somehow the print quality settings have been changed, e.g. you were printing in draft mode and you are now printing in highest quality.

Before printing, click the properties button from the print menu and check the setting there.

Thanks, Jon, but I always have it on draft and check it to make sure almost every print job I do; I also have it on default.

I went in to look at printer drivers and am unsure of how to reinstall my driver; there is just a thing to add printers. Is that what I want to do, Amergin?

Sailor Dan, thanks, but I know from experience that it is not that.

It is so weird. Acts as though my HD is out of memory almost, you know that slow, that you need to go delete a bunch of stuff, EXCEPT that it is fast in every respect except the printer. It is just taking a long time to communicate.

Thanks a bunch,

kat

Most printer manufacturers have a website where you can download the latest drivers and can email for help.

Well, thanks, guys. I went to the HP site, did the download, uninstall, then install and it seems to have taken care of the problem.

Thanks a bunch!
