Don't know about anybody else, but, personally, I'm elated that the "presidential thing" has ended. My great joy has not one thing to do with who came out the winner. Truth is, I'm just happy to get my town back again and get out from under the spotlight. Except for the one ass that deliberately ran over a competitor's reporter, the press people have really been pleasant to have around. They came from all over the world, and spent a pile of mony in restaurants and bars and hotels and dry cleaners, etc., etc.

The demonstrators that contending parties bused in were a different story. Fortunately, they were mostly "day-trippers" that didn't stay around long. There was planty of "street theater" to go along with things, with a variety of costumed characters cavorting about the place. The protestors looked like a sizeable mob on the television screen, but in fact were rarely more than a hundred or so in number. Nothing at all like the 80,000 football fans that descended on the town for the FSU/UF game in mid-November.

The down side of it all is the "million plus" tab that local taxpayers will have to cover for all the "services" required by the media circus. My compliments to all of the local law enforcement folks who put in many hours of overtime and did an effective but non-obstrusive job of crowd control. An most especially, I'm very proud of my town and her people, who took it all in stride and helped to make it a positive experience over-all. Not bad for big-time history in the making. The only problem *BG* is that now the whole world knows where Tallahassee is.

Paddy, I think Tallahassee will return to its previous status.....that of an old lady's genitals. Everybody knows its down there; nobody cares.

Glad to hear the the hacks behaved - can't have been that many Brits among 'em is all I can say.
I spent years doing the fireman bit, heading off to strange towns in strange countries at the drop of a hat, and I have to admit that the behaviour of the British press pack leaves much tobe desired - usually pissed, generally obsreperous, bloody arrogant and convinced that the local law of the land doesn't apply to visiting hacks. I cringe when I think of some of the pleasant restaurants that have been boorishly disrupted by the guys who like to term themselves "Her Majesty's Press".
The broadcast guys are better behaved (with the BBC they get no chance to do otherwise, because auntie works her crew like galley slaves), but the mid-market and tabloid hacks are dreadful!

"Except for the one ass that deliberately ran over a competitor's reporter" - now that sounds interesting. Would that have been one of Gervase's colleagues, or a native?

I'd love to see a Drop the Dead Donkey special about that election.

Yippee! The last of the big trucks and cabana tenst disappeared today. Amazingly, there doesn't appear to be much of a mess to clean up, in the way of litter and such. Jeez, I might have to change my opinion of media types. Well, wait a minute, most of the folks I interacted with were the "tech-types," not the "face-types."

However, the few face-types I did encounter actually seemed pretty normal, especially the gal from Italy.

Damn, it's hard to let go of stereotypes, but, it's the fair and proper thing to do under the circumstances. Okay. Here goes: I hereby provisionally determine that media types can be nice folks when away from home and the pressures of the office. *BG*

Come again, folks, we enjoyed having you around for awhile. Maybe next summer's "'Possum Festival" a couple counties over would be a good time?
