I just ran across a couple of sets of Augustine nylon guitar strings that I must have misplaced more than ten years ago.

Do you suuppose they would still be worth using?

Sure. Nylon doesn't rust. I'd keep a newer set in reserve,though, just in case they could have gotten brittle with age. Some plastics do that.

I assume you still have a nylon string guitar ;} I think nylon does deteriorate; but most of the damage seems to be exposure to the elements and mildew, so if the strings were packaged, I would try them myself.

If nylon strings have deteriorated, you soon know about it - they get crystalline, this makes them opaque, and bits flake off. The bass strings don't suffer as much as the monofilament trebles, so if you find they break up on you it's worth finding a store that has single classical strings for sale and just replacing the trebles. NB: light exposure hastens deterioration, so if you keep the guitar in the dark the strings last longer. The older the strings, the more susceptible they are to light.
