Subject: RE: Ouch, we've been Napstered From: Jed at Work Date: 18 Dec 00 - 04:32 PM I guess I'm honored to be there! I just wonder how many serious music listeners get their music that way? I suspect that the would-be buying public, still buys ... and the new legal deals that have been cut will make Napster pay something akin to the radio station license fees, if I'm not mistaken ... so I assume I'll be protected through my ASCAP publishing company. Does that sound right? |
Subject: RE: Ouch, we've been Napstered From: NightWing Date: 18 Dec 00 - 04:31 PM I had thought that Napster was under court order to shut down. But a co-worker the other day said that had been lifted. He said they were working out some kind of deal to pay SOME royalties, but he didn't know ANY details. So what the devil is going on?

Subject: RE: Ouch, we've been Napstered From: Dave Swan Date: 18 Dec 00 - 04:26 PM Yeah, Jed, I'm not sure either. Is it good advertising? I don't know. You're certainly right about sound quality. Again, we're torqued off that somebody else presumed to do it. |
Subject: RE: Ouch, we've been Napstered From: Jed at Work Date: 18 Dec 00 - 04:23 PM Sorry Dave, if it's any consolation, I just found my own stuff out there! I am downloading one to see what it sounds like. I am not sure I care ... stuff's published ... CDs sound much better, not a high volume sales issue for me. I guess I'm just not sure if it helps or hurts! |
Subject: Ouch, we've been Napstered From: Dave Swan Date: 18 Dec 00 - 04:11 PM Oak, Ash & Thorn, my little band of idiots, has been thrown to the Napster. Our double album CD has been cast into cyberspace by someone we don't know. Revenue lost from recording sales isn't the point, hell we're not a high volume business, and we don't depend on gigs to feed us. What rankles is that someone else has chosen what work of ours is put on the web, and how. We make cuts available for download from our website, and when the new live album (being recorded in part this month, see the What's On permathread for details) is released, we'll most likely add more downloadable content. At our discretion. We didn't even get kissed. Dave |
