Was "Free the People" (by Dubliners) written after any particular event or so?

I don't now for sure, I don't even know how old it is but my guess is that it was written about "Internment" which gave the security forces the power to jail people without trial. In the early seventies a lot of people were interned, also in the mid 1950;s. Again I am not sure.

I have it in a songbook which has notes to each song but this. However, the songs in this book are in historical order and this song is the last, that is the newest one. The songbook is from 1975 and the song is hardly much older. As Jimmy has presumed the song is about the internment, but I'm sure it is about the internment in the 1970s, written at about the same time (and in the same spirit) as 'Men behind the wire'.

If this is of any help: on the LP "Double Dubliners" (1972): Free the People, by (Phil) Coulter - (B?) Martin.

The authorship also dates the song to the 1970s internment. Among Coulter's other songs are The Town I Love So Well and Scorn Not His Simplicity.

As far as I can remember it was about the "Internment"and it was included in the "Dubliners" tribute to Luke Kelly "Lukes Legacy".

Yes, but it's not so obvious for me, so I ask:
Internment, yes, but... in which country?
(Beautiful song anyway).

Not England, just N.Ireland. An act of desperation by the British government at a loss how to end the violence.
