Subject: RE: BS: ' B' sides of favorite records From: GUEST,hollowfox, visiting the main library Date: 26 Dec 00 - 06:00 PM Rube 1, the lyrics to the Bonanza theme song can be found, with guitar chords, yet, in "Big Book of TV Theme Songs" published by the Hal Leonard Corp (www.halleonard.com), ISBN 0-634-00614-2. This book is just new, so you can probably find it in a bookstore as well. It's also in that old classic "TV Theme Song Sing-Along Book" John Javna (ed), St Martin's Press, 1984. Neither book had your verse about the pot of gold, though (at least at my fast glance); the (first?) verse dealt with having a right to pick a fight. I liked your verse better. |

My second husband was portuguese and every summer we would go down to the ocean and pick periwinkles, bring em home, steam em with salt, red pepper and celery salt. We'd sit down with a hot pot of winkles and everyone had a pin to pull em out. Delicious! My son love them. I was going to mention "If it doesn't snow on Christmas" too, but someone beat me to it. Ringo walks into a hail of bullets outside ( the N. is wounded, I think) ("... he amiled and said,'We're even, friend.'/ The crowd began to shout and cheer: nowhere was there shed a tear/ for Ringo." Later our hero visits the grave to pay respects and finds it an object of curiosity: "But on the cross they can't explain/The tarnished star above the name/ of Ringo." Chills. Allen Sherman recorded a satire of it about a barber who wants to cut a Beatle's hair, the last line of which is,"And who do you think performed that tonsilectomy..on Ringo." Misspent youth, indeed. |

Robbie's also covered Queen's "We Are The Champions" as the B side to Eternity/Road To Mandalay. Another Queen cover B side comes from Travis, who did a version of "Killer Queen" on the B side of their latest Top Five single "Sing" which charted in June. |

Was "If It Doesn't Snow On Christmas" the song originally intended to be the "A" side, or was there an earlier recording with RRND on the "B" side of a different song? Genie |

King's "Sweet Sixteen Pts I & II" and Bill Dogget's "Honky Tonk, Pts I & II" which give new meaning to 'double sided hits'. |

For anyone who's interested, there's a discussion of that recording and the song on this thread. For the record (!), the A side was apparently "Big Yellow Taxi", not "You Turn Me On, I'm a Radio". |
