On the other side of "Satisfaction" the Rolling Stones recorded "Under Assistant West Coast Promo Man" and of course, the B side of Elvis's first recording " That's Alright Mama" had "Blue Moon of Kentucky" on it.

When it was pointed out to them that records now had TWO sides (early Ernest Stoneman were on those thick Edison one-sided records, but I digress) they retired among themselves and came up with that wonderful version of "Yellow Rose of Texas" with the politically incorrect words that every old time band plays. The "B" side was the big hit. |

Strangest B side I remember was Napoleon XIV "They're Coming to Take Me Away, Ha Ha." The B side was the same song recorded backwards. |

However, there have been many years and lots of... experiences since then, so I could be wrong. Matt, I'm with you -- I really liked "Old Brown Shoe". And LEJ, I was also going to mention "She Loves You/I'll Get You" -- I'm sure the Beatles considered the latter a throwaway, but the tune was infectious. Just another Beatles fan showing his age. I think Creedence Clearwater also had some good combinations, although I'm not sure I can remember them specifically (was "Down On The Corner" backed by "Fortunate Son"? "Green River" backed by "Lodi"? the memory fades). I think it was their strategy to release singles that contained two strong songs, in the hopes that one would make the charts. |

It's a small snail like thing and the fleshy part has to be extracted with a pin; thus, to winkle something out of somebody means it has been quite a task.
Apparently there's a Japanese species of winkle that's been attacking French oysters in their beds. What is the world coming to. LFF |

The Beatles were big on other people's B sides (Buddy Holly covers, Arthur Alexander pieces, etc.). I remember Paul saying that that was one reason why they wouldn't toss off a bad B side if they could help it. (Which doesn't explain "Old Brown Shoe" or "You Know My Name (Look up the Number)). The best two sider ever, in my opinion, was "I Feel Fine/She's A Woman". Or maybe Penny Lane/Strawberry Fields Forever...Pretty good value for money!!!!! yours, Peter T. |

Side A was Bing Crosby, but Side B was done by a group called The Bearcats. If anybody *Ever* finds a whole album by this group, let me know. I want it, or at least a copy. As I recall, I described it as sounding like the record producer's nephew's klezmer band, on bad acid. we'd haul adult friends over just to hear it, and it had it all; the slightly unusual tempo, the occasional sound in the background of someone accidentally sitting on a concertina. This now a bluegrass standard, and although the song is still good, the bluegrass arrangement pales in comparison to the original (mainly due to a castrated chord sequence, though a ninety mile-per-hour tempo doesn't help much, either). I loved this song the first time I heard it. It even had baying hounds during the fade-out. |

Some of their B-sides a even better than album track, for instance "Stay Young," "Acquiese" and "Whatever" which is an oddity indeed...a non-album track B-side released as a single. Except for just 4 singles...I own every Oasis b-side ever made. On the other hand, I can sing ALL of them...LOL. |

Subject: ' B' sides of favorite records From: Seth Date: 20 Dec 00 - 04:15 AM Some of my favorite songs were the B sides of records( remember them?) I bought or was given for the hit. For example, the other side of the " Wake Up Little Susie" 45 by the Everly Brothers was a song that I liked beter called "Maybe Tomorrow" . The other side of " Great Balls of Fire" 45 was the country classic "You Win Again" My parents got me a 78 of "Rudolf the RNRD" when I was five or six, but what I really liked was the song on the other side "If It Doesn't Snow on Christmas" I think I only played this about 20,000 times, my parents thinking long and hard about EVER getting me another record! So enough, what are some of your fave "B" sides? Oh yeah does anyone know the words to " If It Doesn't Snow on Christmas"? Gene Autry retired on what he made from the "A" side. Seth from China |
