This is an absolutely beautiful, haunting song I heard Johnny McEvoy sing years ago in a concert in Dublin. Sorry I don't have it comitted to memory. Good Luck.

Here you go Rab...from a google page.

PAT MURPHY'S MEADOW

The Autumn days are here again, the night wind's chilly blow;
The woodland's turned to golden hue, and harvest moon's aglow.
I dream again of days long past to come no more, I know,
When I mowed Pat Murphy's meadow in the sunny long-ago.

I see the blue of ocean, the distant sail afar
As the maiden in the meadow strikes up "Dark Lockingar".
There was music soft and tender in winds that whispered low,
As I mowed Pat Murphy's meadow in the sunny long-ago.

Where are the boys and girls that danced in the quadrille,
And the singer that warbled sweetly, "The burning granite mill";
To hear again at sunset, "Where Sweet afton Water flow",
When I mowed Pat Murphy's meadow in the sunny long-ago.

Those days are but a mem'ry, like the snows of yesteryear,
And when evening shades are falling, all alone I shed a tear,
On my cheek I feel the soft touch of winds that whispered low,
When I mowed Pat Murphy's meadow in the sunny long-ago.

J. M. Devine

Merry Christmas, best wishes, Yvonne

Here's "PAT MURPHY'S MEADOW" once again, with slight corrections. This version is from the family of J. M. Devine. By the way, there's a beautiful piano/vocal/guitar arrangement by his grand niece, Anne Devine, in "Catch Ahold This One" (a Newfoundland folksong anthology published by Vinland Music). Contact me if you would like more info on obtaining the music.

Best wishes,
Eric

Hello, Anne Devine here. I just came across these posts. If anyone wishes to reach me they can email me at devineanne7@gmail.com
...and by the way, I am J.M. Devine's GRAND-DAUGHTER, not grand-neice. If anyone knows how to change this, I would very much appreciate it.
Thanks,
Anne

I did some looking, Don, but I couldn't find it.

I did some listening on YouTube, and I found a clear recording of the song here:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AueJroeuB3M

It's in the key of B flat, and the first note is an F. Given that, can you learn the tune off the video and sound it out?

I didn't sound out the entire tune on my keyboard, and there could be a surprise note somewhere in the second half, but B-flat is good to start with. It's a fine tune.
