Subject: Mudcat CD/book/instrument Exchange
From: GutBucketeer
Date: 29 Dec 00 - 09:06 PM

Ok, I was procranstinating, but I wasted 2 hours on-line last night looking for some hard to find CDs at used CD sites. The problem was that none focus on folk, blues, celtic, old-time,... music. In essence they don't see us Mudcatters as a viable Market.

But we are everywhere, and we would like to find the types of music we like.

So how about a Mudcat CD/Book/Instrument Exchange with a portion of every transaction going to support the Mudcat?

I will start the ball rolling by posting what I am looking for here, and some things that I would like to get rid of in the Mudcat Auction.

JAB

I am looking for the following CDs.

Comet by Cordelia's Dad
Cordelia's Dad by Cordelia's Dad
Songs from the Mountain by T. O'Brian/Dirk Powell/J. herriman
Dansoozies the one with Cotton Mill Girls by The Poozies
Any Horse Flies recordings
Any Red Clay Ramblers recordings
Any Highwoods String Band recordings

I will pay $8.00 ($7.00 to you, $1.00 to Mudcat) plus shipping per CD in good condition with the liner notes, etc.. This seems to be the going rate for used CDs.

Oh, man, JAB, I've got all of the Songkiller Series, but I sure won't part with them! As of this evening the volume you are looking for was listed at www.bibliofind.com.

Good idea, btw, as long as it doesn't cut out Dick Greenhaus and Camsco, as well as give Sandy & Caroline at Folk Legacy a chance to fill your orders. Have you asked them? Dick says he will find anything we want.:-)

I was wondering who got on the ball and put so much in the auction, today! That is great!

Thanks and good luck finding those books; they ARE excellent!

Anyone have a spare vintage vinyl of Message From The Country by The Move from 1970, just lying around?

Peg:

Yes, Yes, Yes! I do like Cordelia's Dad. The only CD I have though is Spline.

I know their line up changed for their last CD, but I did not think that they were still performing together. Their website has not changed in some time. If they are great!

Kat:

Hopefully, the auction shouldn't take away from any sales to Folk/Legacy, or Camsco. Additional traffic might even help.

It just seems that we should at least try to post stuff here before going to Ebay, Amazon Auction, or some of the other sites that sell used or hard to find merchandise.

Happy New Year.

Does it have to be folkie stuff posted here?

cause I have all 6 books of the Thomas Covenant series hidden away at the back of the shelf, and I'd rather dig my eyes out with grapefruit spoons than read them...

Anybody out there interested in giving them a good home? I'm more interested in trade than sale...

;-)

Hasn't Cordelia's Dad always been Tim, Cath, & Peter with the fiddler (Laura?) coming & going?

I think the deal is that they still perform together, it's just that they are not together very often.

I think I've a few things I could offer as well....just let me go and rummage in the cellar.....now where did I put them?

I'll post up a few interesting/hard to find books and records I don't need any more once I've sorted them out.

All the best

I just added a new songbook to the auction.

Earthen Vessels: Music From St. Louis Jesuits Song Book.

Nice Spiritual Song Book with 12 songs with Melody and Guitar accompaniment.

No minimum Bid.

I will split proceeds with Mudcat.

Buyer pays shipping

If the bidding reaches $5.00, then the auction will close once no activity occurs after 3 days (72 hours).

Good luck!

I can't speak for Sandy, but I personally can't see how the sale of used CDs is going to impact CAMSCO particularly. I'd hate to see an institutionalized cycle of buying/copying/selling, though--more on ethical rather than financial grounds.

And if anyone is looking for new CDs, CAMSCO has had a very good (if not perfect)record in finding hard-to find recordings. Just ask.

Dick and Sandy:

I certainly have never bought a CD just to copy and re-sell it. I expect most Mudcatter's don't make this a practice either.

I am just trying to get rid of some CDs I no longer listen to, and find some CDs that I think are for the most part out-of-print ( certainly out of the corporate/commercial market). It also helps Mudcat in a small way.

I have to admit that I also like rummaging and re-cycling old books, LPs and CDs. It's fun for me.

If it ever begins to impact CAMSCO or Folk Legacy we will simply stop doing it.

I just put another CD in the Mudcat Auction.

The Horse flies "Gravity Dance"

I bought it last week expecting Old Time influenced music. The songs are interesting, but definitely not Old Time, or even folk. It's more experimental rock.

See the Auction for a description.

Thanks, JAB! I think this thread is a good idea since I don't like auctions. Also, the small items I can offer or am looking for would get inordinately expensive by adding postage to the States or Australia (I live in Germany). As JAB said, it's got nothing to do with copying and selling on - I much prefer to have the original CDs - but with the fact that once in a while you buy a CD that doesn't come up to your expectations, or you get a second copy and don't know what to do with it.
For a while now I've been looking for Alex Campbell's book 'Frae Glesga Toon'.
I'd be prepared to sell or exchange CDs by Danny Kyle and Robin Laing.
Anyone interested or able to help, please eMail me at skw@worldmusic.de
