I have been given a lovely album of blues songs for Xmas. One track is "New Early In The Morning" by Sonny Boy Williamson (the first, ie John Lee Williamson), which he sings like he's eating his dinner at the same time. Anybody know where the words are posted? - I'm getting frustrated trying to get them off the recording!

It's not quite what you are looking for, but it may help with the "transcription". Click here

Allmusic.com has a sound sample of NEW EARLY IN THE MORNING (I assume it was called that because Williamson had previously recorded a quite different song called EARLY IN THE MORNING.) taken from the album "Shotgun Blues" by Sonny Boy Williamson (Catfish CD 125, 1999). I transcribed this:

Now an' y'oughta heard my grandmother when you got my grandfather told,
Said, look-a here, man, you really—you've been(?) not too old.

CHORUS: Because it's early in the mornin', baby, 'bout the break of day.
Y'ought to seen me hug that pillow where my baby used to lay.

[Note: he pronounces "break of" like "breakum" and "pillow" like "pillum" but I'm pretty sure "break of" and "pillow" were what he meant.]

NEW EARLY IN THE MORNING
As sung by Sonny Boy Williamson on "Sonny Boy Williamson: Complete Recorded Works in Chronological Order, Vol. 3, 1939-1941" (Document Records DOCD-5057, 2005)

1. Well, I woke up this mornin', baby, an' I couldn't make no time.
I didn't have no blues but I was all messed up in mind.

CHORUS: Because it's early in the mornin', baby, 'bout the break of day.
Y'ought to seen me hug the pillow where my baby used to lay.

2. Well now, I got somethin' to tell you, baby; keep it to yourself.
Don't tell Mister So-And-So; warn nobody else
About it's early....

3. Now an' y'oughta heard my grandmother when she got my grandfather told,
Said, look-a here, man, you really—you been got too old.

4. Well now, look-a here, baby; what you tryin' to do?
You think I can love you then be your dog too.

5. Well now I got somethin' to tell you, baby; keep it to yourself.
Don't you tell your kid-man; warn nobody else
About it's early....
