Also, 'Fian' and 'Fiann'.

To rhyme with hte well known loudspeaker manufacturer, "Fane". Can't speak for the rest.

I am guessing you mean the word for self,even, own,actual etc "Fein" as in "Sinn Fein".

It would be pronounced as either Fayne or Fane. unless it referred to myself "Me Fein" then it would be pronounced Ma Hayne. I can't do accents on this keyboard.

There is a similar word " Fiann" as in "Fianna Fail" then the pronounciation would be "Feeann"

With regard to the pronouciation of "me fein" this may depend on what of Ireland you come from. I was taught to pronounce it as "May Fane" and it means "myself." "Fian" or "fianna" (fee-ann)and (fee-anna) on the other hand means a "band of warriors" historically applied to the group of men lead by Finn McCumhail.The political party founded by Eamonn DeValera took the name "Fianna Fail" which means "Soldiers of Destiny."

I had seen that 'Feinn' was another spelling or form of 'Fiann'(Finn McCumhail's group of warriors). It could have been faulty info though.

If you listen to the accepted BBC Newscaster pronunciation the English phonetic is Shin Fane. If you listen with a phonetic ear to most dialects it comes out as Shun Fee-yun. It depends whether you want to impersonate the accent or use the bland, world-wide received pronunciation. Either way, they won't understand either word in Limerick!

The correct pronounciation of "Sinn" is actually "shing" and yes "Fein" is pronounced "fane" as the spelling in Irish is "f-e fada-i-n"

There is something I remember hearing from long, long ago, back when I was still married to the guy who put the "Mac" in my name... On the Clancy Brothers' records (that he absconded with when we split!), they sang songs about "the bold Feinin men". They pronounced it Feen'-yen. I had always presumed thet Feinin was an adjective applying to the members of Sinn Fein, and not just the same word. Was I wrong?

Perhaps it was the English (anglicised?) word Fenian. My Dictionary gives:

Fenian a member of a revolutionary organisation formed to overthrow English rule and set up a native republic in Ireland [from Old Irish fene - inhabitant of Ireland]

The "Fenians" were a revolutionary organisation founded mainly by James Stephens (1825 - 1901). It was organised on military lines and its main object was the overthrow of the British in Ireland. An abortive uprising took place in 1867 which failed mainly because the group was riddled with Government agents. The name was based on the "Fianna" a group of early Irish warriors. The ballad "The Bold Fenian Men" is in memory of them.
