Subject: RE: Help: Whaling Ballads:MacColl/Lloyd, Wash. LP From: GUEST,Steffen Larsen Date: 15 Sep 11 - 05:51 PM "Whaling Ballads" has popped up on the iTunes Store. It contains the A.L. Lloyd "Greenland bound" I have been looking for tbese 20 years ever since my dad's taped version of it came too close to a magnet, a version far better than the one on "Leviathan". The iTunes "Whaling Ballads" however I have only listened to in preview: the audio quality is miserable, seemingly straight from a very worn and scratched LP. I dare not buy it for now. |

Just go to the "personal pages" link at the top of the page, and click it on. It will then prompt you on your options. You can send a message to another mudcat member, view the messages you've sent or received, delete or archive (save) old messages. I got an offer on the tape through a PM, but thank you! Are you a new member? If so, consider starting a new thread, introducing yourself. -chanteyranger |

Subject: RE: Help: Whaling Ballads:MacColl/Lloyd, Wash. LP From: SeanM Date: 03 Jan 01 - 03:56 AM I've got a MacColl/Lloyd CD by the name "Blow Boys Blow" released on the Tradition label. Looking at woodenshipsmusic.com, I find "English Drinking Songs" and "Leviathan" from Lloyd... also, "Round Cape Horn" with MacColl, Lloyd, Tawney & Killen. No "Whaling Ballads" though... Dunno... does anyone else have a link or clue? M |

Subject: Whaling Ballads:MacColl/Lloyd, Wash. LP From: Peter Kasin Date: 03 Jan 01 - 01:26 AM I'm wondering what became of the long defunct Washington label LPs. I'm looking for a Ewan MacColl/A.L. Lloyd album, "Whaling Ballads" and am wondering if it has been reissued on CD. A forum search for "Washington label" reveals that Washington had reissued Riverside's catalogue. Our local public library had a Washington label copy of it, which I used to check out whenever it was in, back in the late 70s. I didn't tape it, and it either got discontinued from the library collection, or somebody permanently checked it out. It holds a special place with me, because it was my introduction to sea music, and it remains my favorite sea music album. I have several other recordings of sea music they made together, plus A.L. Lloyd's "Leviathan," all wonderful recordings, but I cannot find this one. If anyone can tell me if "Whaling Ballads" is availabe on CD or cassette, I'd be very grateful. -chanteyranger |
