Subject: RE: Debra Cowan's cd in the auction From: Murray MacLeod Date: 01 Jul 01 - 04:21 PM Go see her, she is wonderful. If you speak to her, remember she likes to be called "Debbie" rather than "Ms Cowan" ...... Murray |
Subject: RE: Debra Cowan's cd in the auction From: Sandy Paton Date: 01 Jul 01 - 05:06 PM Deb is also appearing on the Showcase stage at the huge Falcon Ridge Festival -- probably the most "folk" oriented performer to be selected, and that's because she can sing circles around almost anyone there. That's why she was chosen to sing so many of the ballads and songs on our new CD: Songs nad Ballads of Hattie Mae Tyler Gargill (Folk-Legacy CD 128). Rick Fielding heard her sing one song after our gig at John and Linda Henry's place in Worcester, MA, and she practically melted his highly sophisticated heart! Sandy |
Subject: RE: Debra Cowan's cd in the auction From: Murray MacLeod Date: 01 Jul 01 - 05:29 PM Sandy, you are making me homesick ! I really miss John and Linda's house concerts. I would love to have heard you there ........ Murray |
Subject: RE: Debra Cowan's cd in the auction From: Sandy Paton Date: 01 Jul 01 - 06:59 PM Good folks, those two. They sang a couple of great songs at the Old Songs song swap, too. John Henry has one of the most distinctive voices around, and I love to hear him sing! They make some wonderful music together. Sandy |
Subject: RE: Debra Cowan's cd in the auction From: SINSULL Date: 01 Jul 01 - 09:16 PM I won Debbie's CD in the last auction and love it. Her sweet voice probably did melt Rick's heart but with her impressive strength and range she is definitely not just another pretty voice. Bid often and bid high. |
Subject: RE: Debra Cowan's cd in the auction From: katlaughing Date: 01 Jul 01 - 10:40 PM Well, that'll teach me to read the date of the first posting! Here I got all excited thinking it was in the auction NOW, reading all of your recent praises, and then I think I'm daft or going blind 'cause it isn't there and THEN I come back and....oh well, Deb, do you have any for sale which one could buy? Or, do I go through Sandy, or Dick? Thanks! kat |
Subject: RE: Debra Cowan's cd in the auction From: Sandy Paton Date: 01 Jul 01 - 11:35 PM Sandy's got 'em, Kat, m'luv, on hand and ready to ship.. |

Subject: RE: Debra Cowan's cd in the auction From: DebC Date: 02 Jul 01 - 09:01 AM Wow. Thanks for all the kind words! And thanks to Steve for giving folks the head's up about my Pinewoods Debut. Contrary to what that Scottish Skalawag MacLeod says, no one calls me Debbie and lives to tell the tale. Hahahahaha. Even Sandy knows better, methinks. You are absolved, Sinsull, as you were only following Murray's lead. As for Falcon Ridge: surprised the hell out of me. I will get up there and give 'em as much traditional song as I can fit into my 10 minutes of "face-time". My solo album, "The Long Grey Line" is available from Folk Legacy, Efolkmusic.com and from myself. The EP "Banks of Green Willow" is available from efolkmusic.com and myself. Hell, I may just put another copy Of "Banks" in the auction again and watch you all fight over it. Thanks again to all for such nice comments. Debra

Subject: RE: Debra Cowan's cd in the auction From: SINSULL Date: 02 Jul 01 - 10:12 AM "Bullgine Run" is my favorite and definitely not going to melt Rick's heart. Get it pumping, maybe. |
Subject: RE: Debra Cowan's cd in the auction From: Joe Offer Date: 02 Jul 01 - 07:18 PM I changed the thread title - hope it's less misleading now. I own every one of Deb's CD's, and I can't decide which I like best. She's a wonderful singer with a rich, powerful voice. -Joe Offer- |

Subject: RE: Debra Cowan's cd in the auction - SOLD!! From: Barry Finn Date: 02 Jul 01 - 11:30 PM Deb sent me her CD when I was lounging in the hospital & I think it got me extra care, cause the nurses came in much more often when I played it, I might even go as far to claim that it's so good that it was a direct cause of my speedy recovery. Subject: RE: Debra Cowan's cd in the auction - SOLD!! From: Suffet Date: 03 Jul 01 - 06:32 AM Pleasant side benefit: if you come to hear Debra at Polytechnic on 9/14/01, you'll be in downtown Brooklyn, the home of an incredible array of eateries, from hole-in-the wall places serving up Jamiacan meat patties as spicy or as mild as you want them, to the upscale dining offered by Archives at the Marriott Hotel. A 5-minute walk to nearby Atlantic Avenue puts you in the middle of New York City's largest concentration of Middle Eastern restaurants, but within a similar walking distance you will find Nigerian, Vietnamese, Thai, Cambodian, andwhatever else you can imagine. You can even have good old fashioned American barbecue at the nearby Apache Bar and Grill. And yes, there are enough vegan-friendly places in the vicinity to satisfy even the most finicky of the Johnson Girls. So come hear Debra Cowan sing her heart out. Then pig out like there's no tomorrow. Or at least come and hear her sing. Date: Friday, Sept. 14, 2001 Time: 8 PM sharp Place: Wunsch Hall Student Center € Polytechnic University Metrotech Center € Brooklyn, NY Admission: $10. NY Pinewoods members $9. Polytechnic students admitted free. --- Steve |

Subject: RE: Debra Cowan's cd in the auction - SOLD!! From: ukelady Date: 04 Jul 01 - 10:44 AM Happy 4th of July to all you Mudcatters. I have heard Debra only on recordings. What a voice. Friends who have heard her live have said great things about her. Caroline Paton was kind enough to get me a copy of the Songs and Ballads of Hattie Mae Tyler Cargill. It's fantastic. Get yourself a copy, either from the auction, Folk Legacy or Debra herself (www.DebraCowan.com). Better yet, come to Debra's concert in Brooklyn on September 14th. I'm certainly looking forward to it. And what Steve said is true. You'll have a tremendous choice of eateries to go to, either before or after the concert. Hope to see you there. |
