If anyone out there is a Jacques Brel fan, I have located, after some trials, one lyric link: "stud.uni-sb.de/~chbu0000/Jacques_Brel.html". Anyone located any more, or more extensive? Yours, Peter

Went to the site you listed above (thanks) - followed it over to: "Jacques Brel is Alive and Well and Living in Paris" at: http://carver.holycross.edu/~bbatty/ ; and from there to several other links, as listed on http://carver.holycross.edu/~bbatty/brellink.htm .

http://www.math.umn.edu/~foursov/chansons/ is a site with many chansons francaises including several by Jacques Brel, but:

"ATTENTION: l'accès aux textes des chansons de Jacques Brel et de Serge Gainsbourg est supprimé à cause des problèmes avec les droits d'auteur. Dorénavant, ces pages-là ne seront disponibles qu'avec un mot de passe..."

Merci, RS., someone has obviously added to the links since I first checked it out, which had just a dead-end reference to the Broadway show. Gee, I wonder if the password must be French/Flemish? Yours, Peter T.

If you follow the password links they take you to a form where you can ask for one. You should have no trouble acceeding the songs for non-commercial purpose (I think French copyright law is lax on private use... Never seen a copyright acknowledgement on French scouts' songbooks in any case). Some of the questions on the form look weird but they are meant to be lighthearted (just make clear you're not going to resell the songs you got there). Finally if you're not sure you understood the form, which is in French, say so in the comments textfield at the end. Good luck with the French!

PS. And check out Georges Brassens' songs, he's brilliant writer.

Thanks again. I always thought the phrase referred to a father who wouldn't leave home. Yours, Peter

Ah Jerry, Jerry, me lad, no use a'wrigglin now! Had t' bait thet ol' hook three times, but ah dun cotch't ye sh'r! If y've time 'n' perspicacity t' make a quarrel (and a fine, fair quarrel't be, indeed!) then y've th' when and th' wits t' help correct th' wicket mess o' slop thet passet f'r Francais in th' DT, as y' were p'litely ask't some little time agone. The first few lines'll be off t' yer personal page, right quick, t' be sh'r! (Always gave my students an "A' for the day when they found one of my (frequent, but unpredictable) mistakes. Got notes copied from the board and carefully perused at the modest cost o' a wee bit o' humble pie!)

Peter: In Ulm,
Um Ulm,
Und um Ulm herum.
Vee gate spaghetti? (Sorry, Wolfgang)

As ever,

Shula
