Please post your venting to Guest here. Rick has made it clear he doesn't like being the focus of the other thread. It must be driving him nuts to see his name keep coming up at the top of the list.

Guest, stop trying to excuse your actions & just apologise. Sign it preferably.

Rick, a hug from me. That's why I don't use my name here. I managed to walk away from personal trolls in some other groups. I knew who it was coming from & even why, but it still bothered me every time I saw them.

Yeah. I wish they'd go after me again instead. I'm so whacked out from this fire cleanup that I think I would not care anymore.

I wonder... if I started a Jesus thread if it would draw the fire away from others.

If we don't want it in the forum, we need to think very carefully about whether or not we want to bring it into the forum, or to perpetuate it when it is started by someone else.

Most of the damage done to the forum is not done by the cowardly snipers, but by the members who allow themselves to be manipulated into responding negatively.

If you look at most of the flame war threads, you'll see that most of the vitriol is coming from members who use thier names. The guests just step in from time to time to add a little more fuel to the fire.

What I don't understand is why people who have seen this sort of thing happen over and over again keep contibuting to it?

GUESTs who behave badly have some sort of lack of common sense or control, or a need for attention that's only satisfied by provoking reactions instead of discussion. It's inevitable that some of these people come here hungry for attention, but NOT that the rest of us keep feeding them. The trolls can't help it - can we?

I'm more frustrated than mad, but please consider when you're about to hit the submit button: is what you want to say important enough that you want to keep the discussion going?

Sorry, but if we keep giving them the results they want, we deserve them.

This guest got personal about someones talent, that is different than disagreeing about ones political views, etc, especially since his target is a very talented individual.

But Jeri is right, this creep is probably sitting back and laughing at all of us, but I do appreciate your point of view. .

Thanks for appreciating Jeri's point of view and mine. What I think I am trying to convey is the fact that when people post as GUESTs and make personal attacks on peoples' talent or anything else, for that matter, they do it for one purpose only.

It is their intention to get you and other members all worked up and to start a flame war between members. The sole agenda of these people is to jerk your chain. Are you going to let them do that?

As we all know, it's very hard NOT to react when people jerk your chain or push your buttons. I've decided that whenever I want to respond nastily to something I have to go find another tune for the DT. That helps prevent my responding.

Burke. Bless you! I'm staying away from here for now. It's maddening, 'cause over the last few weeks I've had more spare time than normal, and for me, Mudcatting is usually a fun way to pass the time. Suffice to say, seeing your name heading up two totally unneccessary threads is NOT fun. My tormentor (who is NOT former flamer MK) has made things difficult for me off Mudcat as well. If this were the first or even second incident, I'd have just ignored it, but it's been happening for quite a while now. Their posts are carefully constructed to get the knife in while seemingly being innocent and objective. Anonymous (or when they use fake names) snipers are hard to defend against.

The only way to deal with that kind of stuff is ignore it. Which is hard at times, but it really is quicker.

But with a thread title like this, why don't we just talk asbout Alice's Restaurant? Much more productive. (And I can't be the only person who opened this thread thinking it was probably about that anyway...)

I used Garbage Dumping because that's the title used on a couple of threads shortly after I joined last summer. I should have made it Garbage Dumping - do it here, Please.

Normally when I discover a thread is gone nasty I just ignore it & hope the rest will just let it die. I read the original thread fairly early on & then kept ignoring it. I know sometimes these threads will take a humurous turn & when it just did not die hoped it had become one to give a few laughs.

I was wrong. I made my original post about the same time as, but before I saw that, a couple of principals said lets just stop. I don't know why it took so long. I don't know why a couple of people feel the need to publicly agree to let something drop, thereby continuing to bring it to the top.

I see the original thread has dropped off the bottom so unless someone refreshes it, I'd just a soon let this one die as well. I have jury duty tomorrow so I have no idea when I'll get back anyway. If someone does refresh it, flame whoever it is here.
