Sad to relate the death of the band leader Les Brown of cancer at the age of 88. He formed the Band of Renown in 1936 and accompanied Doris Day in her smash hit "Sentimental Journey" in 1944. He also had a hit with "I've Got My Love to Keep Me Warm" in 1948. He had a long association with Bob Hope.

Gave me quite a turn that did. Very sad, but at least I wont get 'where's your band of renown then', in future.

Guest, Les Brown - are you the guy who made the album 'Scandalise My Name'? When I read the name I thought it was this guy (who must be my age) who had died.

Thread creep with double connection:
When planning the wedding with my X2B of very musical family, I asked my fianc to ask said family to sing something at the wedding. At wedding found out he'd never asked them, and they mostly didn't feel like singing since they hadn't rehearsed. But Pappy, the patriarch, got up and sang Sentimental Journey, to the at first worry (who is this old coot?) changing to admiration (whoever he is, he can sing!) of much of the attending kith & kin. He was a sweet old coot. He died Thursday in the blessedly fairly early stages of Alzheimers and Lou Gehrig's diseases, coupled with existing diabetes. He was the only father I'd had for the last 13 years, and I'll miss him.
His name was Brown, too. He and Les should be having a high old time about now...

Hello
I've often wondered what happened to Les Brown (the singer-guitarist of Glasgow in the late 1960s). I still have his Dara LP 'Scandalise My Name' - fine album too. As far as I know this was all he recorded. I think he may have moved to Germany at some point. Anyone know anything?
Thanks for your time...
