I keep refreshing it to make sure that Sara finds the answers to her questions.

Apart from having to wade through the toddler tantrums (grin) she would also possibly have trouble finding her thread again with its very generic title. It may not be obvious percentage-wise if you did a word-count, but the reason that this thread was initiated was to find the answers to some questions.

1) I freely answer any question if it interests me.

2) I freely answer any question I'm capable of if it saves our resident scholars some time. (that way, they can talk about more topics that interest me)

3) I freely answer any question that I happen to remember a specific Mudcat thread discussing.

4) I freely answer any question I happen to know the answer to and happen to have some time. (And if I have time, I'll use SuperSearch for someone else.)

5) Sometimes, just as a whim, I am intrigued with searching the 'net for something obscure.

I've noticed that my Internet correspondences have changed...the tone of inquiries is more insistent, and seldom is there a thank-you...

But numerous people were kind to me along the way, and I just like to "pass it on."

I'm not going to get involved in an argument between two other regulars, regardless of my own opinions as to which of them contributes more of lasting value here.  So far as ag an bposadh bhi gcana is concerned, all I can do at the moment is point you to this reference to Ag an bPosadh Bhi i gCana:  Sreanga Oir (John Feeley  :"At the Wedding Feast of Cana". [Gael Linn].  Maybe that recording will provide more information for you.

As a non-Irish speaker, it looks to me like Sarah is looking for three separate Irish songs/tunes:

1. bi losa im chroise
2. stor mo chroi
3. an bposadh bhi gcana

Helen has provided links to the first one, Jeri has posted the second which is also here in the Digital Tradition database. That just leaves #3 and I'm sure someone like Aine, Philippa or Annraoi would be able to dig it out.

Not really. A non-sequitur has no relation to what has gone before; it's something that comes totally out of left field. A thread drift, on the other hand, is just that: drift, not total change of direction. It usually arises when a topic related to the original topic comes up.

Zeb, thanks for the much more calm response. I was trying to prevent the guest from being scared away by your attack-mode post. I didn't want him/her to think that this is the sort of reception that newcomers can usually expect from Mudcat. When somebody flames a newbie, it makes us all look bad, not just the flamer. It's a black mark against Mudcat as a group, and that's a group of which I am a member. Thus the on-behalf-of-us-all apology. If you don't get this, Spaw gives logic lessons, and Kendall is his backup.

If one loses his/her cool so badly that somebody else steps in and apologizes for him/her, the gracious thing to do is to let it stand, not attack the apologizer. That just makes the flamer look like more of an asshole than the original flame did, which is presumably why Lepus Rex told you not to be a dickweed (whatever THAT means).

And I must agree with Lepus that if you're answering lyric/music requests in order to harvest warm fuzzies from thank-yous, you're doing it for the wrong reason.

I am a civilized human being, and a hunt through my posts would confirm that.

Most of my posts are answers to 'guest' questions, Very rarely do any of them reply, and almost never is a 'thank you' posted.

This is what annoys me, and I think you'll find the same opinion amongst many 'catters. Some don't even bother to search anymore.

My frustration caused me to use bold text and write an expletive.

If this means that I'm 'just an arsehole' then I'd be wary of your judgement.

You most probably have tried this but if you haven't, I typed the phrase stor mo chroi into a search engine called GOOGLE and came up with too many links to music and lyrics to list here. Some were complete Gaelic songs and some in English with this phrase used as is.
