Subject: RE: help I need some music From: Helen Date: 14 Jan 01 - 01:23 AM Ed, I keep refreshing it to make sure that Sara finds the answers to her questions. Apart from having to wade through the toddler tantrums (grin) she would also possibly have trouble finding her thread again with its very generic title. It may not be obvious percentage-wise if you did a word-count, but the reason that this thread was initiated was to find the answers to some questions. Helen (feeling very much like an exasperated pre-school teacher, but haven't lost my cool yet (grin) ) |
Subject: RE: help I need some music From: Jeri Date: 12 Jan 01 - 08:49 PM Sarah, there's a blue box up at the top of this page titled "DigiTrad Lyrics Search." You can type in a song title or a part of it and click on "Go" and it searches the database. |
Subject: RE: help I need some music From: Zebedee Date: 12 Jan 01 - 07:43 PM It's also in the DT database here Search before you post is a good maxim |
Subject: RE: help I need some music From: Zebedee Date: 12 Jan 01 - 07:36 PM You can find them here. I'm not sure how to to take your comments (ironic, sarcastic, straight up, or whatever) so I'm not replying to those. Enjoy the song. Ed |
Subject: RE: help I need some music From: GUEST,sarah Date: 12 Jan 01 - 07:28 PM I'm looking for the words to the song: "The feilds of Athenrye" Please help me!!!!! P.s Thanks Ed!! Please don't flame at me you scary scary man!!!!!!!! my email is smbest@roadrunner.nf.net Thanks again!!! |
Subject: RE: help I need some music From: Zebedee Date: 12 Jan 01 - 07:17 PM I don't know why this keeps getting refreshed, there have been much worse flames here. I would like to apologise to Mousethief for making an uncalled for comment about his religion. It was wrong and totally unjustified, I didn't even really mean it. So I apologise completely. Everything else I wrote was from a nice guy who was feeling cross Ed |
Subject: RE: help I need some music From: Robo Date: 12 Jan 01 - 07:10 PM Back from hiatus! This one sure puts the mud in Mudcat, don't it? Rob-o |
Subject: RE: help I need some music From: Helen Date: 12 Jan 01 - 05:57 PM Refresh again. Just in case Sara hasn't seen the answers yet. Helen |

Subject: RE: help I need some music From: GUEST,ina Date: 10 Jan 01 - 11:53 AM of course it's the CHIEFTAINES, not the Dubliners -sorry for the mistake |
Subject: RE: help I need some music From: GUEST,ina Date: 10 Jan 01 - 11:50 AM Hi Sara! Don't know if already got the information you need, but there's a version of Sto mor chroi sung by Bonnie Raitt on a Dubliners album titled "Tears of Stone",I think. Hope it helps! |
Subject: RE: help I need some music From: Mary in Kentucky Date: 09 Jan 01 - 09:59 PM ...and as far as answering questions... 1) I freely answer any question if it interests me. 2) I freely answer any question I'm capable of if it saves our resident scholars some time. (that way, they can talk about more topics that interest me) 3) I freely answer any question that I happen to remember a specific Mudcat thread discussing. 4) I freely answer any question I happen to know the answer to and happen to have some time. (And if I have time, I'll use SuperSearch for someone else.) 5) Sometimes, just as a whim, I am intrigued with searching the 'net for something obscure. I've noticed that my Internet correspondences have changed...the tone of inquiries is more insistent, and seldom is there a thank-you... But numerous people were kind to me along the way, and I just like to "pass it on." Mary |
Subject: RE: help I need some music From: Malcolm Douglas Date: 09 Jan 01 - 09:38 PM I'm not going to get involved in an argument between two other regulars, regardless of my own opinions as to which of them contributes more of lasting value here. So far as ag an bposadh bhi gcana is concerned, all I can do at the moment is point you to this reference to Ag an bPosadh Bhi i gCana: Sreanga Oir (John Feeley :"At the Wedding Feast of Cana". [Gael Linn]. Maybe that recording will provide more information for you. BR>Malcolm |
Subject: RE: help I need some music From: Snuffy Date: 09 Jan 01 - 07:17 PM There's been a total eclipse of the moon tonight, very visible here in Britain and western Europe. Maybe that's why some (usually) very nice folks are acting weird. Wassail! V |
Subject: RE: help I need some music From: Jeri Date: 09 Jan 01 - 07:11 PM Snuffy, you mean I accidentally did something right? Wow! Guest, as a matter of fact, there IS a full moon. Weird, innit? |
Subject: RE: help I need some music From: Snuffy Date: 09 Jan 01 - 07:05 PM As a non-Irish speaker, it looks to me like Sarah is looking for three separate Irish songs/tunes:
Helen has provided links to the first one, Jeri has posted the second which is also here in the Digital Tradition database. That just leaves #3 and I'm sure someone like Aine, Philippa or Annraoi would be able to dig it out. Wassail! V |
Subject: RE: help I need some music From: GUEST Date: 09 Jan 01 - 07:05 PM Is the moon full? Just asking. |
Subject: RE: help I need some music From: Cap't Bob Date: 09 Jan 01 - 06:52 PM Sarah URL's? |
Subject: Lyr Add: A STÓR MO CHROÍ From: Jeri Date: 09 Jan 01 - 06:34 PM Will you kids knock it off before granny Jeri has to smack you both and put you to bed without any gruel? I'm betting this is the wrong song, but it has a correct phrase in it. (Maybe the whole thing in Gaelic would be closer.)

Subject: RE: help I need some music From: mousethief Date: 09 Jan 01 - 06:22 PM Not really. A non-sequitur has no relation to what has gone before; it's something that comes totally out of left field. A thread drift, on the other hand, is just that: drift, not total change of direction. It usually arises when a topic related to the original topic comes up. |
Subject: RE: help I need some music From: Zebedee Date: 09 Jan 01 - 06:19 PM The modern term for 'non sequitures' is 'thread drift' |
Subject: RE: help I need some music From: mousethief Date: 09 Jan 01 - 06:15 PM Non sequitur! Non sequitur! |
Subject: RE: help I need some music From: Zebedee Date: 09 Jan 01 - 06:14 PM The bad news for you is that Jesus isn't going to appear in the sky, ever.

Subject: RE: help I need some music From: mousethief Date: 09 Jan 01 - 06:02 PM Zeb, thanks for the much more calm response. I was trying to prevent the guest from being scared away by your attack-mode post. I didn't want him/her to think that this is the sort of reception that newcomers can usually expect from Mudcat. When somebody flames a newbie, it makes us all look bad, not just the flamer. It's a black mark against Mudcat as a group, and that's a group of which I am a member. Thus the on-behalf-of-us-all apology. If you don't get this, Spaw gives logic lessons, and Kendall is his backup. If one loses his/her cool so badly that somebody else steps in and apologizes for him/her, the gracious thing to do is to let it stand, not attack the apologizer. That just makes the flamer look like more of an asshole than the original flame did, which is presumably why Lepus Rex told you not to be a dickweed (whatever THAT means). And I must agree with Lepus that if you're answering lyric/music requests in order to harvest warm fuzzies from thank-yous, you're doing it for the wrong reason. Alex |
Subject: RE: help I need some music From: Lepus Rex Date: 09 Jan 01 - 05:57 PM Nah, I looked up a couple of the goofier-looking words, like 'bposadh,' and found 'em on some page in Irish. Can't read it, but I guess it's authentic. ---Lepus Rex |
Subject: RE: help I need some music From: Zebedee Date: 09 Jan 01 - 05:55 PM Mousethief, I am a civilized human being, and a hunt through my posts would confirm that. Most of my posts are answers to 'guest' questions, Very rarely do any of them reply, and almost never is a 'thank you' posted. This is what annoys me, and I think you'll find the same opinion amongst many 'catters. Some don't even bother to search anymore. My frustration caused me to use bold text and write an expletive. If this means that I'm 'just an arsehole' then I'd be wary of your judgement. Ed

Subject: RE: help I need some music From: annamill Date: 09 Jan 01 - 05:52 PM Somebodys grouchy! Sara, these words do not exist as far as the search (even google) is concerned. Now, I may be wrong, but SARA HURLS is a suspicious name to wewhohavebeenfooledbefor. If I'm wrong I apologize strongly. Now, if I'm not, these words may be a puzzle, kinda like "whatagoosiam". If we took out all the o's or strung the letters differently, maybe we'd come up with a secret message. ;-) If it is, I may not want to know what the message is. ;-0 Love, annamill |
Subject: RE: help I need some music From: Helen Date: 09 Jan 01 - 05:51 PM Okay,
Two Google searches for the words "chroise" and then "bi a losa" came up with this. One alternative title is The Trip to Sligo, and the other is "Jesus, Be in My Heart". Bi a Iosa, im chroise – The trip to Sligo
There is even a music sample of this tune on this page.
The gif (sheet music) is here for the original jig - so it isn't a slow, haunting tune but a rollicking dance tune so it is all in the way that you play it, but: and the midi & ABC files are available to download on the same page. Helen [This search service has been provided by "Another Mudcat (ex-)librarian"] LOL |
Subject: RE: help I need some music From: mousethief Date: 09 Jan 01 - 05:40 PM Ed, I'd be grateful if you'd act like a civilized human being so I won't be tempted to apoligize on your behalf. If you WEREN'T having a bad day, if this is how you always behave, then you're just an asshole. |
Subject: RE: help I need some music From: Lepus Rex Date: 09 Jan 01 - 05:40 PM P.S. ---Don't be such a dickweed, Zeb. |
Subject: RE: help I need some music From: GUEST,Kernow Jon Date: 09 Jan 01 - 05:38 PM Sara You most probably have tried this but if you haven't, I typed the phrase stor mo chroi into a search engine called GOOGLE and came up with too many links to music and lyrics to list here. Some were complete Gaelic songs and some in English with this phrase used as is. KJ |
Subject: RE: help I need some music From: Lepus Rex Date: 09 Jan 01 - 05:38 PM What do you want a 'thanks' for? If you go through life waiting for your master to throw you a biscuit, you'll be disappointed. Just be pleased that you could help someone. ---Lepus Rex |
Subject: RE: help I need some music From: Zebedee Date: 09 Jan 01 - 05:36 PM Mousethief, I'd be grateful if you didn't presume what 'sort of day' someone you have never met may have had, or 'apologise' on behalf of someone that you are almost certain never to meet Please don't do it again Thank you Ed |
Subject: RE: help I need some music From: Hollowfox Date: 09 Jan 01 - 05:35 PM Retrospective thanks, Zebedee, and thanks in advance as well. |
Subject: RE: help I need some music From: Zebedee Date: 09 Jan 01 - 05:29 PM I'm sorry for going over the top earlier, but having found loads of songs for people without a whisper of a 'thank you' I started to get a bit down. I'm sorry Ed |
Subject: RE: help I need some music From: mousethief Date: 09 Jan 01 - 05:27 PM Sara, I apologize on behalf of the rest of us for Zebedee. He's had a rough day. Normally he's friendlier. Ainé is one of our resident gaelic speakers but she seems to be out for a spell; I'll see if I can rouse her on the email side. Alex |
Subject: RE: help I need some music From: Hollowfox Date: 09 Jan 01 - 05:25 PM Sara, we need a few more hints. Is that last phrase Gaelic? (I don't speak it myself, so I'm guessing.) Where did you hear it? Is it a song, a tune? Since you're signed on as a guest, how can we contact you? You can join (for free), or give us an e-mail address. |
Subject: RE: help I need some music From: Zebedee Date: 09 Jan 01 - 05:15 PM I'm sorry guest, but are you taking the piss? There are a number of us here who spend considerable time trying to help people who are too lazy to learn how to use a search engine. Sometimes I wonder why I do it. If this is an attempt at a joke, very funny, ha ha If this is a serious request PROVIDE SOME FUCKING INFORMATION!" Sorry for the rant, I feel a bit calmer now Ed |
Subject: help I need some music From: GUEST,sara hurls Date: 09 Jan 01 - 04:15 PM I am desperately trying to find some music with no luck so far Any suggestions please contact me the music is:- bi losa im chroise |
