Subject: warranty questions

I recently have discovered that there is a significant difference in warranties offered by some top guitar manufacturers, i.e. where there is a "lifetime warranty" for guitars bought in the U.S.A. that same instrument, if bought in Canada, will have a "one year warranty". I think this is hardly fair! I have a problem with my guitar which is going to be an expensive problem if I can't get warranty service (obviously, I live north of the border). Is there anyone out there that has had a problem with their instrument that they feel should be covered under warranty but had a hard time getting any satisfaction? How did you make out? Any tips for me?
