As the dawn comes creeping Roll on the day Another night not sleeping Roll on the day. Chorus: Roll on the morning, Roll on the day I heard the old man softly saying Roll on the day 2. Waiting for another day Roll on the day When it comes, it washes away Roll on the day. 3. Every night you fight for breath Roll on the day It hurts so bad, you wish for death Roll on the day. The song is about the killer disease Silicosis, caused by the inhalation of coal dust. I've emailed it to you, Janetta...

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Allan Taylor's Roll on the day From: MARINER Date: 13 Jan 01 - 07:38 AM Janetta, I would reccommend the version of the song recorded by Cardiff singer Dave Burns on an album issued by Wobbly Records. It was issued during the 80's to support the miners strike against the Thatcher regime. Burns who at the time earned himself the title "The Miners Minstrel", is one of the finest singers to come out of Wales and his work deserves recognition. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Allan Taylor's Roll on the day From: Jeri Date: 13 Jan 01 - 10:43 AM I think the 2nd verse, 3rd line should be "When it comes, it wastes away." |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Allan Taylor's Roll on the day From: MARINER Date: 13 Jan 01 - 11:24 AM Mac Tattie, Dave Burns is still singing based in Cardiff. As far as I know he still gigs with his old friend Frank Hennessy in the first ever modern Welsh folk group The Hennessy's. He also plays with a band he helped form in the 70's, Ar Log.He left them for some years but as far as I'm aware returned about four years ago. I'll try to post a discography in the next few days, if your interested. Mariner. P.S. The line is "wastes away" |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Allan Taylor's Roll on the day From: Dunc Date: 18 Jan 01 - 04:22 PM If you haven't heard Irish singer/songwriter Rosemary Wood's version of Roll on the Day - check it out. She changed the tune slightly and I heard Allan comment that he thought her version was an improvement. |
