I'm curious..how come it is that most of the photos in the resources are of men? There is more to this question than meets the eye.

You'll find there are more pictures of women on my page than of me Kendall.

Also, why are female 'Catters better looking than the male of the species? I mean like I'm OK, but I have seen YOUR picture Kendall and, uh......................

The truth is that the pulchritude of female 'Catters is such they are afraid if they post their pics they'll overexite impressionable youngsters like Matt and disreptuable old fogeys like me, 'Spaw and Kendall (sorry, guys, just an example!) into drooling all over our keyboards (NOT a pretty sight).
I've spared you all my rugged, er well-used, er decrepit features beacause I know some of you have nervous pets and small children near your PC.

Kendall, if you read my next post and Abby's that follows, you'd see that she used the wrong addy and she hasn't got back here to give us a new one yet.

We used the Photoloft thing over Christmas and are having a good time with it. CLICK HERE FOR THREAD 2 which also links to thread 1.

I too have wondered what has happened to mudcat photos. We sent a load in in November and they still haven't appeared. We'll organise something with photoloft I think. But in the meantime it would be nice to see som new ones in the mudcat resources.

Pne Azul has been taking care of Mudcat Resources and I think he's gotten pretty busy of late with other things. I like the Photoloft setup and Banj had suggested that a Perma-Thread might be an idea too.

should I now regret sending mine? they have certainly been the subject of a lot of drooling of late; what's a girl to do? But I am nothing extraordinary, really, nor ar ethose photos (which are after all a few years old); it is just that there is a dearth of femme photos...

Perhaps most of the photos are of men because women know how to work cameras and a disproportionate number of men are overwhelmed by the technology.

No, Flattop, I think, (and I know I'll probably catch hell for this opinion) men have real good memories and can remember things that happen. Women on the other hand need photos and other visual aids to even remember what they had for breakfast....****BG****

Ya' know Matt, when your blood pressure is up to it, you ought to reseach a few of the "Women of Mudcat." I don't want to single them all out here, but for instance, PEG posted above. If you wanna' fight with El Swanno, you could check out his wife Pam (pj). And of course the list goes on and on. I'd say you need to check out the photo albums on the photo thread or have a look at Mudcat Resources, but I don't think you're up to it.

At another website I frequent, there is a designated person who you can mail photos to if you don't have a scanner and she puts them up. Do we have such a plan?

Marion, if you have a quick copy place near you, somtimes they can scan a photo onto a diskette in a jpeg format for you. It costs a few dollars, but sometimes it's worth it.

Ok, I'd like some predictions from the men. What impact on my life, if any, will my calendar picture have if men like it. Will I ever be taken seriously again? (Was I ever taken seriously before?)

Will it be creepy to have men looking at me in that way? Will I ever be able to get serious roles in dramatic movies, or will I be doomed forever to play sex kittens in T and A flicks? Will my career go down the tank before it's even started? I'm starting to get really freaked out here.

I go there often now that I live so close; when that photo was taken I still lived a half state away...

the other photo was taken in Booth Bay Harbor in Maine...both were taken by an ex boyfriend.

I used to do a lot of professional work with a photographer and we often went to the Fells for some privacy for some nude and semi-nude work...had to go way off the trails to avoid curious hikers (not that that stopped some of 'em from walking over to us to see what we were doing). Lots of gorgeous photos from those sessions, all in black and white. Shoulda submitted one of those for the calendar? But I chose a more recent color snapshot instead.

Tom Wait had a bit to say about calendar girls in the third verse of this song CC. The other verses are interesting too.

Time - by Tom Waits

Well, the smart money's on Harlow
And the moon is in the street
The shadow boys are breaking all the laws
And you're east of East St. Louis
And the wind is making speeches
And the rain sounds like a round of applause
Napoleon is weeping in the Carnival saloon
His invisible fiance is in the mirror
The band is going home
It's raining hammers, it's raining nails
Yes, it's true, there's nothing left for him down here

Chorus:
And it's Time Time Time
And it's Time Time Time
And it's Time Time Time
That you love
And it's Time Time Time

And they all pretend they're Orphans
And their memory's like a train
You can see it getting smaller as it pulls away
And the things you can't remember
Tell the things you can't forget that
History puts a saint in every dream
Well she said she'd stick around
Until the bandages came off
But these mamas boys just don't know when to quit
And Matilda asks the sailors are those dreams
Or are those prayers
So just close your eyes, son
And this won't hurt a bit

Well, things are pretty lousy for a calendar girl
The boys just dive right off the cars
And splash into the streets
And when she's on a roll she pulls a razor
From her boot and a thousand
Pigeons fall around her feet
So put a candle in the window
And a kiss upon his lips
Till the dish outside the window fills with rain
Just like a stranger with the weeds in your heart
And pay the fiddler off till I come back again

I'm sure you made a good choice for the calendar Peg. You have an idea of the audience and the pictures. I'm more into words than pictures myself. However, Matt is in some kind of art course so if you want a semi-professional opinion you could probably send him all the nude or semi-nude picture that you'd care to. He's a trooper. I'm sure he'll look at them all.

Carol C:

As long as you are playing your squeeze box I think you will be perfectly safe :-)

Reminds me of the time we actually really did play strip poker in college. Everyone crouched down around the coffee table we were playing at, and it turned out to be very innocent and PG rated. Then we found out afterwards that the women had all gone upstairs and applied black tape in key spots, just like the old ads in the back of the magazines in the barber shop. The guys stopped thinking as soon as it was decided that we really were going to play. Shock I think it was. So, so of course we lost.

Glad I play autoharp and banjo on occasion (even though I mostly am a singer). Now, for those that are singers only.......

JAB :-)

Though, I definitely agree with Peg. It is creepy to think that women would be looking through the Mudcat photos of me, not to put a face to a name and a personality that they have come to know through Mudcat, but for some other purient reason. And of course vice-versa. While we may jest unfortuneately it is a more serious concern for women in our society even in this day and age.

Actually, I did that as a joke in context with the way this thread is going, but that really is a neat place. Interesting website and a nice piece of history on the place. There is an odd sort of charm about it and those late autumn photos catch it at a very nice time.

We have a few out of the way places we like that remind me some of that. There is something very appealing in it. Here is a picture of Yahoo Falls on the Big South Fork of the Cumberland River. Its only 4 feet wide, but drops 103 feet and in the winter it freezes top to bottom. Its a tough hike, but the place is simply beautiful.

Banjer, why would we need visual aids to help us remember ourselves?

Judging from some gals I have known it would be a help to them to identify the image they see in the mirror each morning! **BG**

Marion, if you would e-mail me at reanes1@gte.net I will try to help you. We had suggested such a plan in the Mudcat Family Album thread.

Banjer, I was thinking the same thing. If any of you don't want to do your own photoloft thing, Banj and/or I could start a Mudcat site on there and you could send your photos to one of us.

Banj if we coordinate it, we could share a password, user name, etc. If anyone wants to send any to me, try katkensho@hotmail.com. If you have any problems, PM me, please and we'll see what we can do.

Since we're doing waterfalls....this was a hell of 1,000 foot climb straight up, even when I was a kid.

I hope Pene is just busy.

Thanks,

kat

Would it be possible to start a Photoloft thing in such a way that any one could post to it? It seems like it should work if we start a Photoloft Album and use the url that takes you to the editing page. A url for folks to go and visit the site could then be posted in the links or even in a permathread type situation. Any thoughts? Those that still could not upload to the site because of no scanner or diggie cam could send regular photos to myself or Kat or any other person they know that has scanning capabilities and we could see that their photos also got on the site. For cripes sakes, we've got the technology, let's use it! Also a thought, could the pistures presently on the Mudcat Album site be transferred somehow to Photoloft? It would seem they could be downloaded to hard drive or even a CDRW and then uploaded to the Photoloft.

Second that, Matt/Mbo is NOT like that, trust me. He just likes women, and that is rare enough in this world. He does not mean for his comments to be "creepy" in any way at all. Don't take it wrong, ladies, just enjoy that there is a male out there who likes you. Is this post misunderstood/messed up too? Really, it's OK.

Prickly, Prickly, Prickly.

I didn't mean to imply that Matt, Spaw, me, or any other Mudcats are "like that", or make any mean assumptions about the average male mudcatter (statistics pun there, watch out for bad humor).

However, I did try to illustrate how I might feel if the common female/male role perceptions were reversed. It gave me a better understanding of why there are fewer female catter's pictures and why some have been removed from the general resource page.

Just my 2 cents (or lack thereof).

JAB

Not to sound too nasty or anything Elise, but sometimes reading a thread will give you a good idea about how things happen here. Two things to do..........

First, the photos that we have been doing prior to Pene Azul getting busy are at "Mudcat Resources" which you can access through the pulldown menu at the top of the page labeled "Quick Links." Just highlight "Mudcat Resources" and then you can read some profiles or get some e-mail numbers or look at all kinds of pictures.

Second, scroll up a couple of posts past yours on this thread and you'll find a link to another thread and on it we've been doing something different by putting up albums of various 'Catters and editing out wasted messages so all of the links to the albums are about two or three posts into the thread.

Now I have the info that I wanted, and I can recognize others when I see them... Would it be wise to run and hide on these occasions? Maybe cross the street at least? As long as there's no pics of me, I suppose I'm safe!

Thanks again.
