Aha well seeing as we have no current reports on San Antonio here is some stuff you might like.

Yup there is a session in SA - location unknown at this time but is well attended and has a great crowd of fiddlers and other things.

The Autoharp/Dulcimer crowd tend towards the small town Fredricksburg - which incidently has the best homebrew beer I have tasted in years! That said I am probably missing tons of things as the metro is so vast. I went to one Boogrog session in a a Bar and it was fun but they had no jam, later some folks said we should return next week but city life and distractions - oh well.

Announcing the latest house concert series in Houston, Texas.

The Songbird Sanctuary is a new venue in the turn-of-the-century Montrose area home and concert garden of Sara Draper and Tom Yeager. Our motto, "Preserving the Songwriters' Art", sums up our mission of delivering to songwriters of acoustic music a discerning audience in an intimate venue, in trade for their most heartfelt and creative performances.

Since we know that Texas fans are more attentive (and that artists perform their best) on full stomachs, fans are invited to bring their favorite culinary delight to share in an optional potluck smorgasbord before each performance.   

Following each concert, all those that bring a guitar or other instrument can help ignite our picking circle and jam session. Like all true house concerts, the full proceeds of the suggested honorarium will go directly to the artists.

To help us inaugurate our new venue, Linda Lowe will kick off the lucky 13th season of her Writers In The Round Concert Series at the Songbird Sanctuary on November 1, 2002. We are excited to announce that Linda has convinced Michael Smith to make his long awaited return to our city and to grace us with his very special talents. Supporters of WITR may enjoy the best seats for this concert as part of their season pass if they make an early reservation directly with WITR (713-660-7500) or with us (see below). Howdy Bethie - I'm Wesley and I'm over in Ft Worth. We're glad you decided to join up. NTIF is on my list too - I don't think I've missed on in the last 10 years or so. I'm not an autoharpist - I play guitar and mandolin. It's always good to see a younger person who enjoys a lot of the types of music that Mudcatters are into. You'll find a lot of old farts here - but they're NICE old farts.

I will definately be at NTIF! I live about 15 min from Fair Park, so that will be nice for me. I've heard of a few places, but most seem to be in FW and I don't want to make that drive back at night. Anyone know of Dallas places? There is a great coffee house here that people come and perform at during the weekends. In fact, the Brobdingnagian Bards are coming on Feb. 2.... it's gonna be good! Gig'em.

Welcome AggieBethie - from a fellow North Texan. I live in Dallas and have been Mudcatting for just over a year. Great place, and yes there's some great music in Texas - of the "folk/celtic/renaissance music" you mention. In fact, you need to be sure to come out the North Texas Irish Festival (second biggest in the US) this March 2, 3 and 4. Also check out the thread Spaw quotes above - a number of the DFW area Mudcatter attend this session in Fort Worth ... and if you know of some "folk/celtic/renaissance music" music venues at your school, let me know, 'cause there are a few of us looking to add some new music spots to our list.

This is a good place to find out what's up with that sort of music anywhere, not just North Texas, and in fact, not just the US. Glad to have you!

We have a number of good folks in the Dallas area and I think you'll find some awful good music.

There are also a lot of autoharp players here at the 'Cat and if you research some old threads you'll get lots of info. Here's what you do.....Enter autoharp in the filter box at the top of the main threads page and set the refresh (in the pulldown menu) to two years and you'll find lots of conversations (threads).

The 'Cat is a wonderful place, a little village really, and its populated with some talented, intelligent, erudite, loving, and musical people who are glad to help you out or give advice of argue about things or research music and instruments. Sadly, I ain't one of them, but trust me, there are a lot of them around!

Well, I'm in Amarillo -- a rather longish drive for an evening.

There are several in the Dallas area who will shortly check this thread, I'm sure. Someone asked about folk in Corpus not long ago, too, having just moved there and finding only Tejano everywhere. And Houston is loaded with places and people. I'm sure they'll be checking in soon. Your thread title is bound to draw them.

If you're ever cursed enough to become lost in the panhandle, let me know. You can usually find me here at least once a day.

Well, I go to school at A&M right now (hence the Aggie..lol.. sorry), but my family lives in Dallas so I spend quite a bit of time there. I grew up in Corpus Christi, so I go there occasionally, and I frequent Houson on occasion. Yeah, that's about it.

Howdy! I just joined and found this site as I was looking for folk and autoharp music. I was just wondering 1) Is anyone in here from Texas? and 2)Does anyone play the autoharp? I've just recently fallen in love with folk/celtic/renaissance music and I've been downloading songs out the wazzu from MP3.com. (Great site by the way--good garage bands!) Anyways, back to my homework (The life of a college student--geez!) Have a good day!
