Looking forward to seeing them in Sheffield (UK) pretty soon. I've been working with a similar band in the UK ("Buckshot Soup") and we are organising a "band night out" to see them - can't wait!

Best regards

Just saw a short piece on these guys and really liked what I saw and heard.

Here's an updated site for them with audio files: click here. Well worth the listen, imo.

Every once and a while I get the feeling there is some post-modern, conceptual promotion going on around here, dag nab it.

Bud, The path I gave was nominal. Try going to electricedge.com site and once you are on the homepage click testingtesting and from their go to archived shows. First time I ever "saw" them was at Merlefest. (I am too short to really see anyone without a stage) I bought WaWa on the spot and have worn it out. Yeah, they smoke a lot and break strings too but they know how to keep the show on the road. They were at Mt. Airy but I don't know if they ever made it to the stage. This much I know; the Opry Debut was stellar.

These guys were all over Merlefest last year. Apparently Doc Watson heard them playing on the street in Boone, NC and was impressed enough that he got them booked on the Traditional Stage for a couple of shows. After those shows were over they just started setting up wherever they felt like it, claiming to be sponsored by RJ Reynolds (they smoked constantly) and Martin Strings (they broke a lot of 'em). They weren't the best band I have heard, but their exuberance more than made up for it, and people flipped over them. And I have to be grateful to any group that helps renew interest in the diverse roots of old time music. We should all help keep the spirit (since the sounds are hard to replicate) of Jug Band Music alive--better play hard tonight, cause who knows where you'll be tomorrow.

Can't find it, Drooler. Is there supposed to be a space between "archived" and "shows"?

Big thanks for the Lyrics. I have MP3 from the Opry show 1/13/01 if you want me to send. Not sure how the best way to do this is. Leave your email address? They have a CD called WaWa. Saw (4) copies for sale at Station Inn on New Years Eve as passing through Nashville. There IS another CD in the works but I do not have it yet. There is also an entire show from 11/98 posted at electricedge.com/testingtesting/archived shows. Willie Watson has the sweetest broken hearted angel voice I have ever heard. I am hopelessly addicted to that Crow Medicine.

Bud, the website says if you would like to purchase a CD, just e mail here crowmedicine@yahoo.com So they do have at least one......There is no date on the site, but it says they are spending August in the studio putting together a new album and planning the Fall Tour......maybe last Fall? Sounds like they do have albums out, tho.

Subject: Lyr Add: TEAR IT DOWN (King David's Jug Band)
From: RWilhelm
Date: 20 Jan 01 - 10:58 AM

"Tear it Down" is a great jug band song recorded at least three times in the 20's and 30's under various titles. Everyone who sings it seems to do it a little differently but here is the King David's Jug Band version from 1930.

Tear it Down I had a girl and her name was Eve
Everytime I hit her she hollered 'police'
She cooked them biscuits, she cooked brown
Started workin when I was turned around
When you catch another mule kicking in your stall
Go and tear it down

Chorus:

Keep tearin it down, Bed slats and all
Keep tearin it down, Bed slats and all
Keep tearin it down, Bed slats and all
Keep tearin it down, Bed slats and all
When you catch another mule kicking in your stall
Go and tear it down

Mr. Evan, Mr. Evan oh ain't it a shame
To see that monkey whiffin that cocaine
Went upstairs to ring the bell
Police in the alley giving cocaine ...
When you catch another mule kicking in your stall
Go and tear it down

chorus

Doodle am doodle am doodle am doodle am
Doodle am doodle am doodle am doodle am
Doodle am doodle am doodle am doodle am
Doodle am doodle am doodle am doodle am
When you catch another mule kicking in your stall
Go and tear it down

chorus

Their debut on The Grand Old Opry Saturday night surely knocked the cobwebs outta the rafters. They performed three songs. Tear It Down, Bedslats and All Raisin A Rukus Tonight Go Long Mule Having trouble making out the very fast part of Tear It Down, Bedslats and All. Something about a mule in a stall? Does anyone have lyrics?
