Anyone familiar with the Old Settler's Music Festival in Dripping Springs (outside Austin), Texas, in April? My wife and I had been planning to go to the Wintergrass fest up in Washington state in February but have had a change of plans. Some of the same folks, notably Tim O'Brien and his boys (plus Pete Rowan, John Hartford), are supposed to be there. We've always wanted to get down to Austin (and how can you resist a place called Dripping Springs?), so this seemed like a good match. If any Mudcat folks have made the trip, wouldn't mind hearing of your experiences there and of the Old Settlers festival.

Thanks much.

Quick reply on Old Settlers. I've gone nearly every year since moving to Austin in 1995. They moved it from the original Old Settlers park just north of Austin to Dripping Springs last year. Both seem to have comparable camping areas and easily accessible to Austin if that's more your speed. In general, I've seen a movement away from a straight ahead bluegrass festival to a little bit more of an acoustic festival, but I've still been very pleased with the bluegrass acts they've brought in. They've also had a lot of workshops and picking every year and would assume that'll be true this year too.
