Subject: Attn: PalTalk Admins From: Jon Freeman Date: 24 Jan 01 - 03:47 AM The question of closing the Mudcat Song Circle Room when there are no Admins left or willing to take over has cropped up a couple of times so I thought that I would post this: I would prefer to have an Admin in the room at all times. I request that if an Admin who is leaving can not find anyone else willing or entitled to take over this duty that the room is closed. Normally, it is sufficent to announce that the room will be closing and people will leave allowing you to close down. I have just been reading the Paltalk Guidelines and have discovered an alternative method that can be used should the need arise. Typing ..close in the text at the top of the page and pressing enter will force the room to close. Jon |

Subject: RE: BS: Attn: PalTalk Admins From: Noreen Date: 24 Jan 01 - 01:49 PM Thanks, Jon. I wondered what to do last night. I announced I was going to close the room, and all left except one, who I presumed would leave soon after. I'll use the ..close if the situation arises again. Noreen |

Subject: RE: BS: Attn: PalTalk Admins From: Mary in Kentucky Date: 24 Jan 01 - 02:12 PM Jon, I'm not sure where to type ..close. Is this something that only an admin can do? The other night when I tried to close, everyone left but one. There was no response from him/her and hadn't been for an hour. So I booted him/her and wrote an apologetic letter to the PalTalk folks. I saw him/her on the next night and sent a PM to explain but never got a reply. |

Subject: RE: BS: Attn: PalTalk Admins From: Amergin Date: 24 Jan 01 - 02:18 PM Mary, when you're an admin, you can type into that nice box at the top....the one that has the performer list,...that is where we can type close. |

Subject: RE: BS: Attn: PalTalk Admins From: Mary in Kentucky Date: 24 Jan 01 - 02:20 PM ah...I wondered how that was done. It wouldn't work when I wasn't an admin! |

I signed up for paltalk, gave 'em name, email, address, password, user name, etc. Sent all and tried to log on, and was not recognized.Tried twice more and gave up. However, everytime I boot up, paltalk wants me to do it again. I know I'm being stupid, but can't see where. Any ideas? Mike |

Subject: RE: BS: Attn: PalTalk Admins From: katlaughing Date: 24 Jan 01 - 07:06 PM mkebenn, I did the same thing ages ago, but was recognised. BUT, everytime I logged on it prompted me to finish my registration. I never did receive the email from them that would allow me to do that. Then I saw a note by them about them having moved their site recently and for those who never received that email to please try, again. I did, just today, and I did finally receive the email and completed my registration. This may be a stupid question, but how many admins do we have? Did I miss a thread somewhere that explains it, etc.? That was one of the other the things I liked about Hearme, too, the room was always open and available, no offence to you, Jon. I understand that is not how Paltalk works and that you are ltd on the time you can be there. Death by whiskey, you might like to read what a couple of us have written on the Paltalk Stalkers thread about Hearme etc. Thanks, kat |

Subject: RE: BS: Attn: PalTalk Admins From: alison Date: 24 Jan 01 - 09:18 PM there are quite a few admins kat... basically they are all mudcatters who frequent the room....... but we usually only have one at a time..... and when one has to go.. another takes over... the problem is knowing who is who some have different names from their mudcat ones among the ones I know of are Jon, Dave (TAM), jacko, amergin, katchina, myself........ so with the varoius time zones there's usually one of us about..... slainte alison |

Subject: RE: BS: Attn: PalTalk Admins From: Uncle_DaveO Date: 24 Jan 01 - 09:34 PM It may be that I should try registering again if there have been some changes. In addition, I've made a few changes to my own setup, although nothing I would really expect to affect PalTalk. Just MAYBE I can get in. I never received an e-mail from PalTalk that I was or was not registered. Dave Oesterreich |
