Besides the ABILENE in your list of lyrics, there is another one that I remember from my days in Texas. One of the lines is
"It's free of sin and dry as a bone- Abilene forever!"
At the time, Abilene was dry. Is any place in Texas still dry? I would really like to get the words, which I have forgotten.

I assume you're not talking about our frequent droughts. Yes, there are still dry counties here in Texas.

Betcha anything Taylor County is still dry! It still elects John Stenholm to Congress, a genuine living fossil! My days in Abilene ended in 1947 -- when did you leave?

Interesting topic, to me, as I was born in Abilene, TX. My Dad attended Hardins-Simmons University there, after WWII. My family left Abilene for Colorado when I was about two years old. I believe it was still dry about thirty years ago, which is the last time I was there. My Dad was still friends with the guy who ran the music store there.

Coincidentally, my wife and I had been dating awhile before I asked where she was born. I just about did a Catspaw, (take that any way you wish, endless possibilities), when she told me she was also born in Abilene. Strange, but true. And I don't think we've ever held it against each other.

Sorry, Dicho, I don't know the song. Thanks, BlueJay

During summer field trips at Univ. Texas, we used to sing the song on the bus as we traveled to the Big Bend and other places in Texas. This was in the 1950s, the good ole days.

Joe, I think this one just ain't on the web. There are a finite number of ways, with or without quotation marks, that one can look for eleven words (if you accept it's as one word).
