Subject: you never know... From: MMario Date: 26 Jan 01 - 03:33 PM The Levy sheet music site is a treasure mine...and you will never know what you will find. Did you know that in 1909 they published a song "The Taffy Possum" - someone beside 'spaw musta had an oral fixation on marsupials! The advanced search page is at levy |
Subject: RE: you never know... From: catspaw49 Date: 26 Jan 01 - 03:55 PM ORALLY FIXATED??? I don't get it. Doesn't everyone ejoy blowing up a possum's ass occasionally? C'mon now....be truthful................ Spaw |
Subject: RE: you never know... From: SINSULL Date: 26 Jan 01 - 03:58 PM I found the "Dance of the Possums" but nothing about blowing up a possum's bum. Guess you have to be in the clicque to get the good URLs. |
Subject: RE: you never know... From: Allan C. Date: 26 Jan 01 - 04:08 PM BTW, I had an email exchange with a Levy spokesperson about the difficulty in finding certain songs because the cataloguing is often a bit off. Here is the text of the message: "We just had a meeting about the many errors in the site that are in need of correction. We have actually assigned someone to oversee clean-up of the site, and our goal is to have completed the task by the summer. I know we've made this pledge before, but this is the first time we've actually had someone in charge of this, so I'm more hopeful!" |

Subject: RE: you never know... From: MMario Date: 26 Jan 01 - 04:14 PM It's frustrating because the site is so fantastic in many ways - then - you'll find what you need and the link is broken - or it comes up to a different piece. Percentage wise there probbly aren't that many mistakes. |
Subject: RE: you never know... From: SINSULL Date: 26 Jan 01 - 04:23 PM Probbly right, MMario. Sorry - I couldn't resist. |

Subject: RE: you never know... From: SINSULL Date: 26 Jan 01 - 04:31 PM No. think of all the fun we would miss. It was the context that made it funny - "probbly aren't that many mistakes" Tee Hee Looking forward to your concert. Set a date yet? |
Subject: RE: you never know... From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 26 Jan 01 - 10:01 PM My favourite mistake regarsding music of that period was featuresdc in a recent a recent thread here I came across a tape of some mechanical music, and one ofvthe tunes was "The bears have got my Daddy", said to date from the turn of the last century.
Noone could find it anywhere. Then a helpful man with a fascinating Musical Box website suggested it was actually "The boers have got my Daddy" which it was - and here's a New Zeakland site with a genuinely touching rendition.
The thing was, I couldn't believe it when a search of the Levy site didn't come up with the original title I was looking for, because it's got pretty well everything. |
