In about 1980 two Canadian girls played at Bracknell folk festival. One of the songs they sang was of a sailor newly home from sea who is ravaged by a woman. He ends up crying, "Mother, I am quite undone." If I could find the names of the two women who sang the song, it would help. Does anyone have a programme from that time?

The song started

One fine summer's day a woman went walking
Down by the river so gentle and free
And there she espied a lonely sailor
Sitting alone in the shade of a tree

She boldly stepped up to this young
Pray tell to me from whence you came
For my eyes have not feasted on such beauty
And may never do so again

Multiple requests for an unidentified song -
Role reversal, woman has evil way with sailor
Help words of a sea shanty
Lyr Req: Sailors lament
Lyr Req: One fine summer day a woman went walking
Lyr Req: Sailor/Maiden/Role reversal
Hello Sailor

Refresh. I have no answer, but I see the song was previously asked for here.

Some of those threads have additional lyrics that people have recalled. Obvious candidates for amalgamation, I'd think.

You might also search out the Sailor's Husband's Lament, which can be found on the album, "Broad Old River," available through Clearwater, 845-454-7673.

I wonder if the two girls who sang, might have been the McGarrigle Sisters?
