Sorcha Dorcha's live recording of Red Turpin and the Ballad of Amadou Diallo was played on a little folk music radio show on the border of Georgia/Alabama... Steve Sedberry's show last tuesday, and will be played on WBAI in New York, this Saturday on the show which begins at 3:30. I also understand a fellow Mudcatter in Toronto is playing it soon, with our respect and thanks...
The new 5 person band with Gina Tlamsa, of WFUV fame, the fluter/singer who was refered to by James Galway as "that Bolshivic Bitch on the radio..." will be comencing a studio recording in a few weeks. Thanks to all our little fan base...
Larry Otway

Hey! With a label like Bolshevik Bitch, you can't go wrong!! Good O, Larry! I'm gonna be able to say, someday, "Hey, I have their very 1st recording......" of course, it helps that I love the Uilliean Pipes.

Couldn't get that other brazen plug of a thread to open, so giving this one another airing is the next best thing.

I've caught up with the CD at last Larry, for which many thanks - MUCH appreciated. Love the vocals, the pipes, the overall effect, but especially the pipes - having spent this past 30 years, on and off, trying and intending to get to grips with the damn things.

Got the CD just in time for my daughter's ninth birthday, which she celebrated by getting admitted to the Ulster with a mega dose of pneumonia in both lungs - not part of the original plan.

The significance of this is that she is the only person she knows who is called Sorcha. She even gets called Sorcha Dorcha by me, in her darker moments. On top of which, she would have been Lorcan if things had taken a different turn. (Maternal influence in both cases, I hasten to add, as with my own Mudcat handle.)

As her main pressie was a CD player, turning up with your disk got me a barrowload of brownie points.

Knowing my own opinion will cut little ice with you, and some of the other Mudcatters (*BG*), I'd better add that one of the nurses is quite an authority on Irish traditional, and she was every bit as impressed as I was.

Take care - Peter Kirker (aka Fionn)

Peter! Thanks so much for the kind words. THE most important thing to say... Ginger! For wee Sorcha. Get some fresh ginger, grate it on a cheese grater, into pot of water, some sugar and lemon. It is lovely for the lungs. Genie and I will keep the poor cruther in our prayers, as will our fellow mudcatters, no doupt.
I will send your kind comments to the others in the band, and once again... GET WELL SORCHA!
Lorcan and the band.

Don't forget about the world famous debut on Mudcat Radio this week. Wasn't that important? Get much other airplay in the UK, Iceland, Australia...?

In Fact... YES Indeed thanks. I am still trying to figure out how the thing works. But, we are doing a studio recording, comencing this Sunday (God willing) and as we finish tracks, we will gratefully send some on to the Cat.
Thanks again
Larry

Hey Max! Just figured out the Mudcat Radio. Great to see MaryMac again! Her pantomime of an Uilleann pipe was superb! The live part of the show was a blast as well. How far from NYC are you? Maybe we can squeeze the whole band into the studio live one day... 5 of us, but most of us are rather narrow if you turn us sideways...
The IWW was not like most unions, Anarchist bastards rather than commie bastards! We we're a pretty unique Union, the union which includes Utah Phiilips - the late Joe Hill and the equally late James Connolly.
Thanks again, I really enjoyed the show....
Larry

Hey! I guess I wasn't paying enough attention. How far into the program was it? It was a good show but I don't have 2+ hrs. to do it all again.

Thanks for the remedy, Larry. I'll try to slip it past the quacks. Also for the kind thoughts, but go easy on the prayers! I've spent years trying to convince the in-laws that prayers don't work. A lost cause, if ever there was one.

Here's food for thought though: the day before Sorcha got struck down with pneumonia, we ignored the advice of her aunt, who said: "Put on something warmer, Sorcha, or you'll get pneumonia." Grandmas the world over will now be saying "told you so."

If you and the band ever book a couple of days in a studio to do the job properly, I for one would shell out the commercial rate for the end product, and I bet a few other catters would too - but I don't know how many you'd have to shift to make the sums work out.

Fionn: You're a prince. We are starting a studio recording this Sunday. Among the things we are recording first off, is Amadou and Yvette's Song, a song I wrote about the forced assimilation of Canadian Natives , it is the true story of a dear sister who I met working for her people in their fight agianst destruction of their hunting lands by hydro dams. Also I wrote a new song this week, based in the walking song Malli Dhonn - about the loss of a trawler out of Kerry in the 70's when common market agreements forced Irish fisherment 200 miles off shore while Dannish trawlers were fishing in Irish harbours, I think you'll like it...
As to prayer... praying to ask God to do XY or Z is whitchcraft (no offence to some mudcatters who believe themselves to be witchs) however, prayer to find our strenth to do what we know must be done, and accept with strenth what we have to bear, well, there is always room for that, eh?
Feel better Sorcha, from Me and Genie, and all the best to you and yours Fionn
Larry
