I've been trying to find the Vassar song referred to in the thread title; the search is at this thread which unfortunately gives a Princeton lyric whose riddle has been solved priority of place. So I'm starting this thread to catch any passing Vassar girls' eyes. (And yes, as a 1972 Yale dropout I am indeed aware that Vassar is no longer just for girls ;-)

Ta, Liland, hope at the end of the tunnel: I should have the words, if no one else comes through for you first, by sometime next week. Finally got a line on them, but they're coming via snail mail.

Hang on there!

Sarah

Yippee! Here they are!

THE ROSE AND SILVER-GRAY
by Louise Blatchley, 1868
(Air: Auld Lang Syne)

Our morning dawneth on the hills,
A great and glorious day;
We take our colors from the east!
The Rose and Silver-Gray.
The twilight with its dimming stars
Transfigured by his ray,
Brightens before the rising sun,
To Rose and Silver-Gray.

The old, the darkened skies of night,
Our night, are passed away,
And 'gainst their gloomy background gleam
The Rose and Silver-Gray.
So fair dawns morning on our hills,
And bright shall be the day;
We take our colors from the east,
The Rose and Silver-Gray.

***

Nice that it's set to a well-known tune, eh?

Sarah

Thank you, Joe -- no kisses from Annette need apply, though. Not my kind of entertainment at all.
