Would anyone know the name and lyrics (and translation) to the slow ballad type song, sung in Irish Gaelic, in the movie "The Nephew"? The scene was the wake... phonetically it began like this:

feel feel a run oh

Sound familiar to anyone? Please if you know if this song, or know where I might research it, could you email me?

Could this possibly be Shule (Shool, Suile, etc.) Aroon? Only because the phonetics are similar........I haven't seen the movie, so I don't really know.

SHULE AROON

The song I heard definately started out like this phonetically:

feel, feel aroon oh ?(feal, feal ah run o)

thanks

It was only a thought, sorry it didn't work, keep looking for someone who has seen the movie, and that won't be me. Sorry my idea didn't work.

From IrTrad, I just found this:

It is a very popular Donegal song "Fil, Fil A Run O", written in 1739. It is the lament of a mother whose son "changed his coat" during the Penal times.

FIL, FIL A RÚN Ó

Fil, fil a rún ó
fil a rún ó is ná himigh uaim
Fillorm a chuisle's a stór,
Agus chifidh tú 'n ghlóir má fhillean tú

Shúil mise thall is abhus
I móta ghrainn' óige do rudagh mé
'S ni fhaca aon iontas go fóill
Mar an sagart Ó Dónaill 'na mhinistir.

Fil, fil a rún ó
fil a rún ó is ná himigh uaim
Fillorm a chuisle's a stór,
Agus chifidh tú 'n ghlóir má fhillean tú.

Dhiúltaigh tú Peadar is Pól
Mar gheall ar an ór's ar an airgead;
Dhúiltaigh tú banrion na glóire
Agus d'iompaigh tú i gcóta 'n mhinistir.

Fil, Fil a rún ó,
fil a rún ó is ná himigh uaim
Má fhillean tú innui nó go deo
Fil insan ord 'nar oileadh tú.

I found an acapella version of this song on you tube by Cara Dillon. Anyone have the phonetic version?
