Dr Spooner is, of course, the reason that the collective noun for bankers is "Wunch"

Good Luck

This isn't exactly a Spoonerism, but a friend of mine who's an Episcopal priest was talking to a rather deaf older lady from her congregation when said lady announced loudly that she "just loved the smell of incest in church!" Heads turned all the way down the receiving line . . .

I was just reminded of a local one...one of the 'ethnic' neighborhoods in Wash DC, is called Adams-Morgan..(why, I don't know)...but awhile back, someone opened a little restaurant/club there, and couldn't resist the temptation, so now we constantly hear radio spots advertising someone's band playing at "Madam's Organ"

Dean Spooner once said to an undergrad "Now tell me was it you or your brother that was killed in the war?" He also liked a well boiled icicle.

A friend was working in the Travel section of a department store. He asked the rather attractive middle aged lady he was serving if she wanted a fooking borm. The best I ever heard though was Jasper Carrot doing the entire song Bastity Chelt (Castity Belt)as a Spoonerism. Some wonderful lines: Wourn or to meep ( mourn or to weep) The Celting old **** (The cunning old Celt) Necialized Spolledge (specialized knowledge) Hot down like a shart (shot down like a hart) Slackbith (blacksmith) He's wack from the Bors (back from the wars) Locked up forever, you work it out. You have to know the original song to get the best out of it though. JohnB I still do it occaisionaly after enough, not too much beer.

I remember the 2 Ronnies doing a sketch about Mr Spooner - the man who invented spoonerisms, the line I always remember was "But you're too titty to be a preacher!" There is a chap in UK (he does get about a bit to other lands) called Chucklefoot, he does a really good rendition of Loldigocks and the bee threars. I quite fancy reading No Shite and the Devon Swarves! As political spooners - can't think of any off hand but sometimes I sink it thad that Fuy Gawkes didn't succeed in blowing the Pouses of Harliament - Bod the Suggers - I pate Holitics!

Don't sweat the petty things... and don't pet the sweaty things! I think that might have been Stephen Wright. Also, I had this true conversation with my niece when she was about 5:

(Niece says something sideways)
Me: Dain bramage?
She (indignantly): I am NOT dain bramaged! (pause) I am not dain... (longer pause) I am NOT brain damaged!

It was hysterical.

There's a Two Ronnies sketch where Ronnie Barker is ordering a round of drinks. During each order, the barman tops up his glass, he downs it, and then goes through the order again. It gets progressively more and more twisted, and he eventually ends up with some outlandish order. As I remember, he ends up with something like "a chest for the woman with the Scotch dress, and a pair of rocks" - only it's much more than that.

Be interested to see if I can find the script for that sketch anywhere online.

Grab.
