Subject: 'Ar m'eire dhom ar maidin' - song ???
From: GUEST,Richie
Date: 09 Feb 01 - 07:04 AM

This is the first line of a song I learnt in school. I would like to find out the rest of the lyrics and the title. I remember another lyric from the first verse that goes - "an sionnach rua ar an gcarraig". Any help is much appreciated.

Subject: Lyr Add: SEAN O DUIBHIR A' GHLEANNA
From: Fiolar
Date: 09 Feb 01 - 09:19 AM

The title is "SEAN O DUIBHIR A' GHLEANNA"

"Ar m'eiri dhom ar maidin,
Grian an tsamhraidh taitneamh,
Do chuala an uaill da casadh,
Agus ceol binn na n-ean -
Broic is miolta gearra,
Creabhair na goba fada,
Fuaim ag an macalla,
Is lamhach gunnai trean;
An sionnach rua ar an gCarraig,
Mile liu ag marcaig,
Is bean go dubhach san mbealach
Ag aireamh a cuid ge.
Anois ta an choill da gearradh
Triallfaimid thar chaladh -
Is a Sheain Ui Dhuibhir a' Ghleanna,
Ta tu gan geim.

" 'Se sin m'uaigneas fada;
Scath mo chluas da ghearradh,
An ghaoth aduaidh 'om leathadh,
Is bas ins an speir;
Mo ghaidhrin suairc da cheangal,
Gan cead luith na aistiocht',
Do bhainfeadh gruaim den leanbh
I mean-ghile an lae;
Croi na n-uaisle ar an gCarraig
Go ceafrach buacach beannach,
Do thiocfadh suas ar aiteann
Go la dheireadh an tsaoil;
'S da bhfaighinnse suaimhneas tamall,
O dhaoine fein ar Ghaillimh -
is d'fhagfainn an scleip.

I apologise for the fact that the various accents are not on the appropriate letters but hopefully you will remember when you see the above poem. Also sorry if all the lines run together as I'm not quite sure how to put in line breaks in the posting. BTW this and other poems can be found in a delightful little book entitled Favourite Poems We Learned at School as Gaeilge." by Thomas F. Welsh. ISBN 1-85635-106-8 and published by Mercier Press.

HTML line breaks added. --JoeClone, 13-Jul-02.
